Golly 4.3b2 is now available for testing I hope I'm not too late to submit two more updates to patterns already in the collection: traffic-light-hasslers.rle (switched to one-per-period format): #C The patterns in this collection hassle common predecessors of the #C traffic light constellation. Re: Thread for your LLS/JLS/WLS search dumps

This thread is for when you find an oscillator with a search program, but it doesn’t belong in the Oscillator Discussion Thread or any Sandbox thread. Under what circumstances would an oscillator found with LLS/JLS/WLS not belong in the oscillator discussion thread or the sandbox? I would think the...

Re: Unproven conjectures

I was just recently looking at oscillators with low heat. Burloaferimeter with heat 10/7 ≈ 1.43 is the only known oscillator with heat below 2. However, oscillators with heat greater than but arbitrarily close to 4/3 ≈ 1.33 almost certainly exist. This is because the 2c/3 half-signal has heat 4/3. x...

Re: qfind - a spaceship search program

Oh, my goodness, thanks so much for helping me bro! Does qfind appear to be working properly now? With the example input given above, the output should look like this: qfind v2.3 by Matthias Merzenich, 19 March 2023 Input: qfind -r B3/S23 -p 10 -y 1 -w 5 -s even -t 1 Rule: B3/S23 Period: 10 Offset:...

edit by Haycat2009 to Grin reagent changed "iteration" to "tick," with description "use less jargon" The standard term is "generation". "Tick" typically also means "generation" in this context, but "iteration" does not, so I think Haycat2009 was right to change it; however, I think "generation" is ...

Re: qfind - a spaceship search program

When I put the directory of the folder, like cd "C:\Users\Matthias\Documents\Life\qfind" and so, it brings me to the file, then what? When I type this qfind -r B3/S23 -p 10 -y 1 -w 5 -s even -t 2 into the C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd windows command line, it just says that 'qfind' is not recognized as a...

Re: qfind - a spaceship search program

Okay, so, after I did all the steps, when I open qfind.exe, it just keeps on closing, is it meant to do that? To be clear, you should not at any point click on qfind.exe in your file explorer. It won't do anything and will close immediately. Everything is done through the command line. Step 5 is wh...

Is it time to move the 754P7 page to 563P7? I have a draft in my namespace ready to go. I support the move, as the 563-cell form is currently the most notable form. Nah. It is a reduction. The page was moved once before after a reduction. Another example is 54P23 , which was moved from 55P23. For t...

“Every finite phoenix evolves into an oscillator” But the domino and dot do not do this? According to the wiki A phoenix is a pattern all of whose cells die in every generation, but that never dies as a whole. Since the domino and dot reach population 0, they do not qualify under this definition.

What similarity? Can you be more specific? I can see how they have a little bit of stator in common, but as far as I can tell the similarity ends there.

Today, there has been EXTREME VANDALISM in the eater 1 page. I think that all these edits should be reverted. Vandalism is deliberate destruction or damage. It is sadly impossible to reduce the oscillator's period from 564 as a result of the Mazings used to eat the unwanted internal gliders.
