## Close life variants

For discussion of other cellular automata.

### Re: Close life variants

Alexey: I would be very interested in the program you describe and would certainly download it to further explore the non-totalistic rules which are discussed here.

I'd want a program like this. What algorithm would it use for searching?

Thank you all very much. I will start writing the program as soon as I can.

gameoflifeboy wrote:What algorithm would it use for searching?

It will just run a bounded grid until it repeats and do nothing more (this piece will be copied directly from wsearch). However, it will save one soup of each period, rather than only the highest-period soup.

### Re: Close life variants

Interesting inserter in notlife:

x = 23, y = 27, rule = notlife20bobo$20b2o$21bo17$5bo$o3bo$b2ob3o$2o2$6b2o$5b2o$7bo! EDIT: Two ways to make the minimum (p13) glider salvo in 4 gliders using a very high-clearance inserter: x = 25, y = 14, rule = notlifeo14bo$b2o13b2o$2o13b2o4bo$20bo$20b3o2$7bo10bo$5bobo11b2o2bo$6b2o10b2o2bo$22b3o$9b2o$4bobob2o$5b2o3bo$5bo! And one way to make the p14 salvo in 3 gliders: x = 8, y = 12, rule = notlife6bo$5bo$5b3o7$bo3bo$2o2bo$obob3o!

This means that glider salvos of every period => 14 can be made in 3 gliders, and p13 can be made in 4 gliders.

3-glider synth of block on pond:

x = 10, y = 7, rule = notlife4bo$2bobo$3b2o$2o$b2o5b2o$o6b2o$9bo!

3-glider synth of ship tie block:

x = 9, y = 8, rule = notlife6bo$6bobo$6b2o$o$b2o$2o2b2o$4bobo$4bo! And a way to move a glider up by one cell in 3 ticks using two gliders: x = 7, y = 8, rule = notlife5bo$o3bo$b2ob3o$2o2$2b3o$2bo$3bo! EDIT2: Bipole-producing soup! x = 72, y = 72, rule = notlifeo6bo2bobo3bo7bobo5b5obo4bo3bo5bo13bo2b2o$bob2o4bo3bob2o2b3o15bobob2o9bobo4b2o4bo3b2o$b2o2b3o8bo2b2o4bo3bo3bo3bo14b2ob2o3bo2bobo3b2o$bo4b3obo12bobo2bo9bo3bo6bob2o8b3o5bo$5bo2bo9bobob3obobo2b2ob3o6b5ob2o2bob2o2b2o3bo2bobo$ob2o8b2o6bo10bo15bo15b2o2b3o$7bo3b2o5b2obobobo5bo3bo3bo3bo5b5o2bobobo2bo2b2o3bo$4b2o5bo7bobobo4bo5bo4b3o4b3o2bobo12b2o$4bob2o2bo2bo4bo5bo8bobob2o5bobo2bo8bo2bobo2b2o$3bob2o3b2o2bo3bo6b2o4bo2bo7bo4bo2bo5b2obo7bobo$bo13bo2bo5bo3b2o4b4o5bobobo2bob2obo2bobo$o3bo15b2o2b2obobo15bo2bo4bob2o3bo5b6o$8bob2o3bo4bo7b2o7bo2bo5bobo6bobo3bo2b3o$3bo2bobo5bo5bo6bo6bo2bo5b2obobo7bo2bobo7bobo$o3bo3bobobo7bo16b2o9bobo2bo2b2o3b3o4b2o$bo3bobo6bob2ob2o8b2o9bo2bo9b2obo4b2o3b2o2bo$5bo5bo4bobobobo5bob2o3b3o4b2o3b2o7bo3bo9b2o$5b3o7bo2bo4bo2bo5b2o8bobobo2bo14b3o$b2o9bo6bo2bo9bob3o2bobo3bo2bo2bob3o4bo6bo$2bo15bobo3b2o4bo4bo13bo3b2obo3b2o2b3o$bo3b2ob2o2b2o8bo6bobo2bo7bo4bo5bo7bo8bo$13b2obo2b2obobobo2bo2b3o4bo7bo2b2o2b3o6b2obobob2o$3bobo2bo2bo2bo2bo3bo11bo3b2ob2o3bo2bo4bobo2bobo3b3o4bo$3bobo3b2o6bo3bo2bo2bo8bo2bo4bobo4bobo3bo4bob2o$2o4bo4b2o2b3o2b2o3bo2bo4bob2ob2o15bo3b2obobo6bo$3bo18bo5b2o6bo3b3o4b2o2bo7bobo5b2o$2bo3bo6bo5bo15bo7b2o3bo2bo3bo2bobo$13bo5bo3bo2bo7bo3bo3bo8bo5bo6b2o$bo7b3o12bo4b2o2bob2o3bob2obo4bo6b2o3bo3b3o$bo2bo5bo5bo7b2o4bob3o11b2o2b2obo4b3o4bob2o$2o5bo6bo3bobo6bo5bo4bo2bo6b3o6bo8b2o$2bo6bobo2b3o5bo11bo3bo2bo3bo7bo6bob2o4b2o$o5b2ob2o12bo2bo8bo2bo4bo4bo5bob2o3bob2o2b2o$2bo3bo2bo2bobo9bo4bo7bo2bo4bobobobo5b2o2bob2o2bobo$o2b2obo2bo4bo12bobo6bo7bo7bo11bo$bob2ob2o6bo4bo2bo11bo4b2o12b2o2bo2bo4bo5bo$2bo5b2o6bo7bobobo6bo6b2obo3bo2bobobo5bo5bo$2o8bo7b3o15bo4bo2bo4bobo5bo2bo4bo2bo$10b2o2bo2bo2bo5bobo2bobo3bo3bo2bo5b2o7bob2obo4bobo$2bo2bo4bob2o3bo3b2ob2o11bob3o4bo6bo15bo$4b2o2b3o4bo3bo2bo3b2o2bo12bobo2b4ob4o2bo2bo2bo5bo$9bobobob2o2bobobobo8bo2bo4bo4b2ob2o7b3obo4bo2bo$bo4bo6b2o5bob3o4b2o2bob2o3bo5b2o8bobo2bo4bo3bo$2bo6b2obo5bo9bo7bo2bobo4bobo2bo5bo$bo6bobo7bo2bobo3b3o5b2ob3o7bobo2bo3b2ob4o$7bo2bo5bo4b2o3bo3b3o4bobo7b2o2bo2bo5bo2bo4bo$b2o5bo4bo3bo3b2o4bo6bo2bo4b2o5bo9b2o$o4bobo3bo2bo15bobo3b2obob2o8b2o2bob2o7bo$o2bobo3bo3b2o10bobo9bo7b3o8bob2o2bobo3b4o$o7b3o8bo8bob4obo3bo4b2o4bobo5bo8bo3bo$6bo3b2o5bobo3bo4bo4bo4bo5bo3bobo4bo2bo3bo4b2o2bo$2bo10b2o2bo9bo3bo4b2o3b2obob2o2b3o2bo4bo$o2bo7bo12bo2b2o4bo2bo6bo4b2o2bobo6bobo2bo3bo$ob2o3b2o5bo2b2o4bo2b3o2bob2o2bobobo4bo3bo7bob2o4b2o2bo$7b3o4bo3b2obo9bobo13b2o2b3o4bo7bo2bo$4bo6bobo3bob2obo7bo4bo13bob3o2bo2bobo2bo$3b2o5bo3bo3bo4bo3bo2bo4bobo3bobo3bob2o10bo2bo3bobo$o11b2ob6o24bo5bo5bo4b2ob2o3bo$bo2b2o3bo23bo13bobo11bo$6bo2bob3obo13b5obob2o4bo5bobob2ob3o2bobo$6bo4b2o2bo3b2obo2bo6bob3ob2o3bobo4bobo8bo4bo4bo$2bo3bo6bobo4b2o2b2o3b5o7b2o3bo8bo5bo3bo$4bo11bob2o2bo3bo2bo3bo5bobo3bobo3bo2bo3bobob2o$3b4o2b4o3bo10bo6b4obobo2bo3bo3bo3bob2o4bo2bo2bo$3bo5bo4bo2bo4bo4bo2bo2b2o7b2obo4bo5b3o2bob4o$bo8bo3bobobo3bo2bo2bo8bo6bo3b2o8bobo2bo4b3o$4bob3o11bo3b2o8bo3bo3bob2o3bo5bo2b2o$3bo2b2o2bo12bo2b3obo5bo13bo6bo4bo2bo4bo$8bo3bo2bo6bobo2bo7bo4b2o3bo7b2o3bobo2b2o2bo2b2o$5bo3bo10bo2bo2bo3bo3b2o7bo2bobo3b3ob2ob2obo4bo$4bo2bo8bo7b2o2bo2bobobo2b3obo3b2o5bo2b2o4bo$5bo3bo4bo9bo2b3o2b2o5bo4b6o5bo2bob2o2bo2bo2b2o!

That's the puffer I had lost! Awesome! If I recall correctly, it's possible to make a c/3 ship from a bunch of them by colliding outgoing debris to produce nothing or gliders.

That's the puffer I had lost! Awesome! If I recall correctly, it's possible to make a c/3 ship from a bunch of them by colliding outgoing debris to produce nothing or gliders.

From the variety of possible glider outputs I've seen, a ship is definitely possible. I'll submit this accidental dirty MWSS backrake and put off ship-building for another day.

It's actually just got the same reaction between every single individual engine, so if you can place either one next to the other one for that reaction using some gliders, you can build the whole ship that way.

Three modified copies of the ship clean debris to form what I feel is an unnecessarily large MWSS backrake:
