Not sure if you realised, but the backrake works in the x-rule precursor rule (aka "pre-x-rule"), whilst the p6 and c/3 reactions are in the precursor variant rule which I accidentally posted after incorrectly determining the Hensel notation for the isotropic rule (aka "x-rule-pre")
I don't think I searched for spaceships in the x-rule-pre rule but in the actual x-rule precursor rule I ran a battery of searches with modified gfind. Here is a summary of the unsuccessful results for c/3:

Unsuccessful search results, c/3:
asymmetric, width 22
odd bilaterally symmetric, width 43
even bilaterally symmetric, width 44

Unsuccessful search results, 2c/6:
glide symmetric, width 22/23
odd bilaterally symmetric, width 23
even bilaterally symmetric, width 24

Unsuccessful search results, 3c/9:
odd bilaterally symmetric, width 13
even bilaterally symmetric, width 14

Unsuccessful search results, 4c/12:
odd bilaterally symmetric, width 9
even bilaterally symmetric, width 10

Unsuccessful search results, 5c/15:
odd bilaterally symmetric, width 7
even bilaterally symmetric, width 8

Even though this doesn't translate directly to x-rule-pre, I think it's safe to say that those reactions aren't particularly promising frontends as very little of the partial is reproduced and it doesn't look easy to modify the reaction to create the required sparks and keep the reaction going.
The 5S project (Smallest Spaceships Supporting Specific Speeds) is now maintained by AforAmpere. The latest collection is hosted on GitHub and contains well over 1,000,000 spaceships.

Semi-active here - recovering from a severe case of LWTDS.

Bump

Golly 3.0 natively supports non-isotropic rules; the MAP string for this one is

Code: Select all

MAPBSB64CCTqARFBImEADAGBSCTgICTSIAAADCFCSTAAAANAMEUBCKEBchCE00YAE3IACSFACCIQQDIIF4UIIAGSA
Also, nobody has yet apgsearched pre-x-rule or x-rule-pre; these are supported in apgluxe.

Finally, x-rule-pre has yet to be proven Turing-complete.

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 3, rule = B3-q4z5y/S234k5j

The proof of this follows the same logic as the proof for the other two, but with slightly different guns.
Feel free to search the precursor rules yourself if you'd like; there's lots of interesting stuff there. :)

I don't get the process at all, so I'll just bring it up at the apgsearch request thread.

A p20 ship just came out of pre-X-rule soup:

And out of X-rule-pre soup, a bizarre yl2700 consisting forward/backward rake:

Now that I have apgsearch, I'll try some soup myself.

That's pretty unusual, and it sure isn't p2700; I think what's going on is that the parser doesn't realize that the two streams are only different periods due to the Doppler effect, and combines the periods naively the same way it combines pseudo-oscillators that share stators (e.g. in Day and Night and other dense rules).

Correct. In the same way, the antstretcher with a p5 tail and a p4 c/4 front in B3/S23 would be called 'yl20'. There's no way, without arbitrarily breaking symmetry, to choose an appropriate lower period.
