Slowest B2a ship I've seen:

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 2, rule = B2acn3acjk4-nt5-ckny6-ac8/S02cen3r4aikq5acr6cin7c
2bobo$o!
I manage the 5S project, which collects all known spaceship speeds in Isotropic Non-totalistic rules. I also wrote EPE, a tool for searching in the INT rulespace.

Things to work on:
- Find (7,1)c/8 and 9c/10 ships in non-B0 INT.
- EPE improvements.

There's an unnecessary 4c/5 there, so the population is actually 130.

There are many more interesting ships in the collection and many, many more to be found. I made a very naive estimate of how many different ships there are (in the 2-state isotropic rulespace) which match the first four generations of the b-heptomino's evolution in life, which came to ~200,000. But don't hold me to that as I made some bad assumptions in the calculation - it was just to get a very rough idea. I've also done a similar search with the r-pentomino. Once again there are over 10,000 unique ships (after a weekend long search). There are far fewer examples with "interesting" speeds though.
The 5S project (Smallest Spaceships Supporting Specific Speeds) is now maintained by AforAmpere. The latest collection is hosted on GitHub and contains well over 1,000,000 spaceships.

Semi-active here - recovering from a severe case of LWTDS.

You could always try stabilising Pedetrian Life's (101,3)c/1884 puffer family, that comes out to about (33.66666666666,1).

Stupidly slow (2,1)c/272:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 6, rule = B2n3-cny4crtz5ackry6c7/S2-ci3-aek4ceiqrty5eiqr6-ae7e8
2bo3$bo$b2o$2o!

Very interesting puffer - probably not apgsearchable unfortunately.

Ooh, a challenge. ;) I pointed out searcher instance at this rule -- it's currently running at a speed of ~1.5 soups/sec. At this rate a 10k soup haul should take less than 2 hours to complete; fingers crossed that apgluxe won't run into any chaotic-growth patterns bringing everything down to a grinding halt.

EDIT: OK, it IS unsearchable; 10k soups yielded a 1035k haul (too large to be submitted). And the number of objects was only about 232k, so reducing the number of soups isn't feasible either. Shame.

Can this be stabilized? It would be fun to see alien switch engines, but none have appeared in apgsearch (probably due to the brittleness of this variant):

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 4, rule = B3/S236e
3o$bo2bo$5bo$2bobo!
Any other transitions that leave the main switch engine engine intact?
