I'd go as far as to say that this pattern is indestructible. Of the cells in/around it that can be turned ON by external influences, none of them border a live cell in the pattern with 3 live neighbors, and no cell in the pattern borders two cells that can be turned ON.

Indeed that rock is permanent. In the code below, as long as all cells marked "x" are off, then those cells will always remain off and the "O" cells will always remain on, no matter the state of all the other cells.

The only parts that are not permanent are the top and bottom cells. Everything else is permanent. The top/bottom cells will repair themselves unless there is something nearby that suppresses them indefinitely.

Probably, that's why I suggested using rakes. You can't extend the Phoenix using the spark from the glider though.
