After a long time playing around with Star Wars I decided to try and find the "simplest" rule to support the same kind of signal circuitry, this is the one I found most interesting.

All the things I build are based around these "double crosses" circuits.

They have two sides which is sometimes inconvenient when merging different circuits, I have found some solutions to this problem but sadly they cause a slight delay

Now for the FUN part, here's an AND gate, built taking advantage of signal-to-photon conversion.
Notice that the two inputs are on different sides of the circuits, by combining the previous pattern and tediously adjusting the gate (making it uglier and asymmetric) you could have both inputs properly on the same side.
