Interesting: looks like it's simulating a cellular automaton of sorts 8)

Yeah, that's definitely interesting. The non-replicator objects get pushed around for around 5000 generations by the replicators without causing a chaotic explosion like might happen with many other replicators; eventually they disappear, but leave behind a section of replicators out of phase with the rest - and those don't cause an explosion, either.

Also, if you view the pattern at scale 2^3:1, you can sort-of see the rule simulated by the replicators "directly". :P

I wonder if it can be turned into a ship generator with an extremely large size or even a clean replicator. Are there any of these (or the variants I mentioned in the previous sentence) 'expanding replicators' known besides this and that one b2a rule?
