This rule was mentioned in a few other threads, but apgsearching and Discord discussion has shown it deserves one of its own. It was first noticed by Dani, who along with Moosey coined its name.

This rule has a very large variety of high-period spaceships, many with long, smoky tails, and puffers and rakes based on them. Most of them are orthogonal, but there are some diagonal ones and there's also an oblique one with a very unusual slope, a (37,19)c/224:
x = 56, y = 24, rule = B3-nqy4aqz5cn6n8/S2-i3-a4inqz7c8

The pi-heptomino is a failed replicator which frequently appears in these ships' tails:
x = 3, y = 3, rule = B3-nqy4aqz5cn6n8/S2-i3-a4inqz7c8

Here is a diagonal ship, with speed 63c/336:

There are so many orthogonal ships I don't know which ones to post, so first I'll quote my own post from the "failed replicators" thread:

I'm apgsearching the rule now, and it appears that some of the spaceships are so big apgsearch can only classify them as oversized - "ov_p0" is the most common object in the rule. But there appear to be even more unique natural spaceships than the ones I just mentioned. Here's a link to the census.

EDIT: Here's one that got tagged as "ov_q392":

The first thing I do in rules like this is put short tables together.
Rake:
x = 11, y = 2, rule = B3-nqy4aqz5cn6n8/S2-i3-a4inqz7c8
3ob3ob3o$obobobobobo!

Really sparky ship:
x = 15, y = 2, rule = B3-nqy4aqz5cn6n8/S2-i3-a4inqz7c8
3ob3ob3ob3o$obobobobobobobo!

Another rake, siderake this time:
x = 19, y = 2, rule = B3-nqy4aqz5cn6n8/S2-i3-a4inqz7c8
3ob3ob3ob3ob3o$obobobobobobobobobo!

All longer ones appear to be the same.

This known? (c/5o)
x = 4, y = 3, rule = B3-nqy4aqz5cn6n8/S2-i3-a4inqz7c8
4o$o2bo$o2bo!

Any pi eaters?
This rule is a lot like eatsplosion, boasting a failedrep that is almost the same as that in eatsplosion.

EDIT:
Really sparky ship
x = 12, y = 4, rule = B3-nqy4aqz5cn6n8/S2-i3-a4inqz7c8

I guess this is probably fairly common in rules that have sparky c/2 front ends where it's impossible for the sparks to catch up to the front. The back end is bound to find a stable orbit sooner or later. But I really like the way so many of the huge spaceships can rebuild themselves from just a few cells at the front end. Here's the generator for the p90 spaceship posted above:

x = 3, y = 7, rule = B3-nqy4aqz5cn6n8/S2-i3-a4inqz7c8
3o$2bo$3o2$2o$b2o$2o!

Then this rule seems unusually good at producing alternate orbits for the same front end. So from the p90 we can get

#C p90 double side rake
x = 10, y = 7, rule = B3-nqy4aqz5cn6n8/S2-i3-a4inqz7c8
obo4b3o$3o6bo$7b3o$3o$obo4b2o$8b2o$7b2o!

or

#C conversion of p90 spaceship to p144 spaceship
x = 10, y = 22, rule = B3-nqy4aqz5cn6n8/S2-i3-a4inqz7c8
7b3o$9bo$7b3o2$7b2o$8b2o$7b2o11$obo$3o2$3o$obo!

or an asymmetrical afterburner for the p90:

x = 18, y = 16, rule = B3-nqy4aqz5cn6n8/S2-i3-a4inqz7c8
8b2o$6bob3o$6b3ob2o$8bo2bo$8b4o$5b2obo$8b2o5b3o$4bo12bo$6bo3bo4b3o$9b
2o$b2o4b3o5b2o$obo5bo7b2o$o14b2o$obo8b2o$b2o8b2o$12bo!

And mixing and matching different spaceship periods can produce a ridiculous number of different puffers and siderakes and higher-period spaceships. P126 + p90 can make a p882 tub puffer:

x = 33, y = 67, rule = B3-nqy4aqz5cn6n8/S2-i3-a4inqz7c8

EDIT: A c/2o p168 ship with a sparky tail...

"Small predecessor" and "sparky tail" certainly seem to characterize a lot of these ships. What is the longest zombieship with let's say a 25-cell-or-less predecessor? Let's say the minimum length is what counts, with ties broken by lowest predecessor population and then by highest spaceship population.

It's okay if the predecessor produces junk still lifes, oscillators, or spaceships while it's settling back into its orbit -- but the predecessor should be the front of (some phase of the) spaceship, not just some random microsoup, so that you can chop off the whole tail and eventually you'll get the exact same zombieship back again.

Here's a predecessor of a 36c/72 spaceship that's never less than 427 cells long, for example:
x = 9, y = 26, rule = B3-nqy4aqz5cn6n8/S2-i3-a4inqz7c8
6b2o$7b2o$6b2o2$5b3o$7bo$5b3o12$bo$2bo$2bo$3o2$b2o$2b2o$b2o!

Seems as if a custom search program should be able to dig up some truly ridiculously long auto-regenerating zombieships.

There are definitely ways to get much higher periods, e.g. by modifying the p882 tub puffer. Here's a p4410 spaceship, for example. Should be easy to reduce. The high period comes from interactions between p90 sparkships and the p882 tubs, so while it may be relatively boring it doesn't seem like it's trivial due to non-interaction:

Does the p756 ship I posted not count?

I said "on Catagolue", i.e. naturally occurring ships. There's an xq540 category as well, but I think the ships in there are all trivial flotillas.

Your examples are impressive as well, though.

Ah, right. It seemed like I was missing something, but I couldn't see what it was. Guess I flunked that reading comprehension test... A helpful Catagolue link probably would have been enough of a clue stick.

Not quite! Reappearance time is a full 540 ticks for the domino spark at the far left here:

There are also a few cases like this, which I think probably should be regarded as trivial even though the p90 spaceship and the p54 spaceship definitely do interact.

The problem here is that the p90 spaceship is really a period-18 front end with a period-90 orbit at the back... and the p54 spaceship only interacts with the p18 part, so every part of the spaceship is either p90 or p54. (Or p18, or I guess you could say the first column or two are technically p2.)

I really like how 95% of a spaceship's structure can (often) be regenerated starting with just a few cells at the front. B3/S23 Life has some emergent structures like this, too, but they tend to be messy puffers rather than nice clean spaceships -- line puffers and so on -- so the effect is not quite the same.

EDIT: Just decided to try mixing p124 and p126 front ends to see what happened. The first try resulted in a period 46,872 = 3*124*126 puffer/rake that seems to be under orders to "build one each of everything":

x = 8, y = 77, rule = B3-nqy4aqz5cn6n8/S2-i3-a4inqz7c8

#C [[ MAXGRIDSIZE 14 XOFFSET -8100 ]]

I don't know if anything along these lines can be tamed to produce a spaceship or a clean high-period rake -- reasonably, anyway; it can certainly be done unreasonably with lots and lots of escorting c/2 ships. Seems as if a simple, period 7812 = LCM(124, 126) zombieship ought to be possible, anyway.
