This is a 9 cell methuselah of an acorn interacting with a domino. It has a large bounding box but in terms of # of cells it's small for its lifespan.

The wiki indicates that a 2x2 universe that consists entirely of 2x2 blocks is permanently made up of 2x2 blocks. So, it seems like blocks are unit cells of period 2 in 2x2. If so, what rule do they simulate?
There is life on Mars. We put it there with not-completely-sterilized rovers.
And, for that matter, the Moon, Jupiter, Titan, and 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko.

The answer is on the wiki as well. (Eppstein answers the same question here, and also does the same for various other rules that share this property with B36/S125.)

Note that the emulated automaton does not use the Moore neighborhood -- so it's not simply "Bx/Sy" for some given x and y.
