Conway's Game Of Life PVP game

It's rather interesting browser-based game; it's what got me interested in Golly. I use Golly to run simulations of the upcoming battle, but yeah, it's cool.

The aim of the game is to have more of your units surving at the end. I've tried using Methuselahs, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

Yeah that's me. I like all the names of your various units, it's a fun way to learn the strange ways of this game - the goals are so different from anything else Life-related.

Not to be flippant but isn't that a bit of an overreaction? I'm not playing quite as often as I was a couple weeks ago, and you can tell because I wasn't even on the "previous games played" list for the last 2 days until I played today. The games are singular and insular, so my wins on their own don't really DO anything... once I stop playing it'll be like I was never there.

But I think this argument is flawed anyway; What's wrong with winning? I simply found a tactic that worked well and quickly honed it into something strong. I noticed that many people's "random" patterns - lines, etc, deteriorate greatly the longer a game is played. So I aimed to create a lot of cells that would never die -- oscillators! And I protect them with still lives and other oscillators. I'm surprised no one's copied me, honestly.

In any case, if you don't want to ever play against me, just host wars in small spaces! I'm much more afraid of battling when I don't have room...

That's like saying "What's wrong with abusing flaws in an online game which other people are trying to play, but instead they give up?" because that's what happened to me.

I disagree that any flaws were abused, that implies a bug or something which is not the case, but I'm genuinely sorry I made your experience worse. I'm playing less often these days, but if you want to have a good time 100% of the time just tell me your army name or whatnot and I won't attack it.

I'd advise having a secondary army to test out new tactics and such, like me.
I found out that spark coils are very good that way. I now have a whole unit devoted to them.

I've heard of this bug in the past and thought it was fixed. If you contact Samuel Levy via the info at the bottom of the site, he might be able to fix the issue for you. His reddit handle is samlev if you prefer that method of communication.

Must just be someone who stumbled upon the site by chance, maybe who doesn't know anything about GOL. I've seen those one-off armies with dots everywhere and thought it was just someone scumming wins for their own team on the other side, but I guess that's not always the case!

It took me a few battles to get that stuff correct. You can fit 5 and a half pulsars vertically in a city block if you space them meticulously.

Note to self #2: Check to make sure the civillians actually decay into nothing instead of turning a protective block into a glider which goes back and disintegrates one of your pulsars.

That has just got to be the worst break in history. (Except for the fact that I still won.) Not to mention that it was also an allied glider. Sigh.

It looks like the server is completely down after a lot of bugs about army problems.

Hi, all.

I'm the guy who made/occasionally maintains GoL:TW. I've had a number of database and performance issues on my server in the last few weeks, so I appreciate your patience while I try to deal with them.

One of the other sites that the server hosts was effectively getting DDOSed by spam bots, which made the database fall over pretty frequently, then the server decided to just leave the database down. That, in turn, managed to kill the background processing scripts which actually process the games, figure out who won/lost, and assign new troops.

Anyway, I think I've managed to lock this down, and get everything running again smoothly, so again - sorry for the inconvenience.

Let me know if you're still running into problems with it.
