Despite being composed of two oscillators of smaller period (479 and 1242587 respectively), it is considered non-trivial because it has a single cell that is alive in generation 160933 and is dead in its other 595199172 phases.

Someone please help me finding a post with a small pattern that evolves an infinite growing circle-shape with almost-1 density. As I was recalling, it has a life-like rulestring. But I might be wrong.

Thanks!

Something like this?

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 5, rule = B34/S34

More (filled) circle-shaped the pattern I saw here before, your example evolves into rather a diamond-shape with smoothened vertices. But thanks for this, anyway!

Unfortunately, no. Still hunting for a very small (<<20x20) pattern in a life-like rule that forms a growing almost-filled circle (maybe S*8 is on in the rulestring?)

Seriously, you are Bill Gosper! I kept Bill Gosper in my ignore list! :shock: REMOVING NOW FROM IGNORE LIST

Oh wait, we are still rivals. I will also do a c/2 spaceship gun, other than lightweight spaceship, but this time the credits will be mine. And moreover, if it is to be a lightweight spaceship, my gun will be smaller and run at lower period! Unfortunately that means inventing new guns, but will hold a record!

When we get famous and scoreboards show 'Rehermann vs. Gosper' I will never admit it, but ONLY now I used your gun to make a p30 oscillator:

Code: Select all

x = 38, y = 139, rule = B3/S23

This one?

Alternatively, there's B3/S234, but I don't know which previous post on that rule might be relevant.

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 11, rule = B3/S234
5bo$4b3o$4bob2o$2b2obobo$b2ob3ob2o$2ob2ob2ob2o$b2ob3ob2o$3bobob2o$3b2o

The 5S project (Smallest Spaceships Supporting Specific Speeds) is now maintained by AforAmpere. The latest collection is hosted on GitHub and contains well over 1,000,000 spaceships.

Semi-active here - recovering from a severe case of LWTDS.
