Reveal Yourself

Post by Saka » December 4th, 2017, 9:24 am

This is a thread for photos of yourself. It doesn't have to be your face, it can be your arm, your leg, etc.
Well to start this off here's my hand. And no that is not my room that is my dad's office

If I remember right, this particular sculpture only took two lunch hours to complete, but it might have been three. The snow was just right for it.

-- Much better exercise than making CGOL patterns, anyway. I'm looking forward to winter finally beginning properly in Wisconsin, and it seems to be coming right up -- dropping about thirty degrees between today and tomorrow.

So it IS you!
Wow! Only 2 lunch hours? Me and my friends made an igloo once and it was much smaller but took about 2-3 days!

It was worth it though, and I drank hot cocoa in it.

That's about right, really. Igloos are tricky, no matter if you just stack up a big pile of snow first and then dig out the middle, or if you carefully build walls and close them in at the top -- slows you down a lot. A solid structure is way easier, and therefore quicker.

My favorite shortcut recently has been to blow up fifteen or twenty big trash bags, say with a vacuum cleaner... then put a tarp over the whole pile of bags, and then shovel snow over the top. If the pile is deep enough, by the time any significant air leaks out of the trash bags, the pile has solidified with a big empty space in the middle. So then you just cut a hole in the side the next day and pull out the bags, and you're all done.

... It also helps to be six foot two and able to shovel a lot of snow quickly -- and to have to put the snow someplace anyway to get it off my driveway and sidewalk. When I was the usual age for building snow forts I couldn't reach ten feet up with a shovel full of snow. If the snow were just a little more reliable around here, I could maybe start a new exercise fad -- huge castles are a lot more satisfying than just lifting weights or running on a treadmill, after all.
