Fastest gun as to average "matter" per generation?

Post by jimmyChen2013 » February 26th, 2018, 9:59 pm

Feel this is too trivial for the normal forums

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 13, rule = B3aeiqr4-aijn5c6cei7/S2cn3-ajr4ceiqt5eijkq6-a7c8

In life or in OCA?

Both.
what's the fastest in Life, and whats the fastest in all OCA

EDIT: not including breeders or quadratic growth

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 13, rule = B3aeiqr4-aijn5c6cei7/S2cn3-ajr4ceiqt5eijkq6-a7c8

Hmm... you should probably state the premise as "average "matter" (population increase) per generation per cell of the original pattern"; otherwise, you could simply put an arbitrary number of Gosper glider guns next to each other and call that the "fastest" gun.

In that case the p9 gun from b2e3ai4t5e6ciks1c2-a3-a4-aeit5ikr is up there

If memory serves, there's a one-cell gun that fires four seven-cell photons per cycle with a period somewhere between seven and nine.
Hard to beat that.
EDIT: Nope, Saka's gun is p5.
5.6 cells/gen/cell
LifeWiki: Like Wikipedia but with more spaceships. [citation needed]

8 cell ones I believe p8. A ratio of 4. But in a non explosive rule...

In B3/S23 Life, without the per-live-cell criterion, I suppose the gun that builds new cells the fastest is the pseudo p14. but that seems like a lousy answer. With the per-live-cell criterion it's going to be hard to beat the original p30 gun, with a score of 5/(36*30) = ~0.0046.

Code: Select all

x = 36, y = 9, rule = B3/S23
24bo$22bobo$12b2o6b2o$11bo3bo4b2o12b2o$2o8bo5bo3b2o12b2o$2o8bo3bob2o4b
obo$10bo5bo7bo$11bo3bo$12b2o!
It would be nice if the criteria could be adjusted somehow so that a faster gun "wins", like maybe the p20:

Code: Select all

x = 70, y = 40, rule = B3/S23

I think you can beat it with a pair of intermittent rake guns, where the pairs of rakes form large spaceships.
What do you do with ill crystallographers? Take them to the mono-clinic!

Sometimes you think of things that it's just plain better not to think of. That means there isn't any "fastest cell-producer" gun, right? Even just a... well, a space-rake-plus-LWSS gun, let's say --

Code: Select all

x = 53, y = 41, rule = B3/S23
b4o$o3bo$4bo$o2bo5$3o$2bo$bo3$5b3o$7bo$6bo3$10b3o$12bo$11bo2$42b2o5b4o

49b4o$31bo2bo13bo3bo$35bo16bo$31bo3bo12bo2bo$32b4o!
#C [[ THUMBNAIL THUMBSIZE 3 AUTOSTART TRACK 1/2 0 LOOP 1000 ]]
-- can be adjusted so that the resulting spaceships have as large a population as you want, just by moving the LWSS piece of the gun farther away. So there's no upper limit on the current "faster" calculation. Now we'll have to divide by the bounding box area, too, or some such horrible thing.

Yeah its hard to "clarify" something
This is mainly for Life i think
the "contest" include only rakes and guns, that produce a single type of spaceships, one at a time (at each given time only one is being produced at its current step) (strictly that means multi-barreled gun)
the score is the average slope of the population/t graph

again non-linear growth is not allowed

EDIT: I don't mind about the population
we'll just have to feel that's right
an allowed gun can be made of smaller guns, but but the result must be a different spaceship

EDIT 2:
this have a score of 12/4:

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 6, rule = 3/2/4
.ABC$ABC3.ABC$ABC.ABC.A.CBA$2.ABC2.BA.CBA$4.ABC2.BA$6.ABC!

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 13, rule = B3aeiqr4-aijn5c6cei7/S2cn3-ajr4ceiqt5eijkq6-a7c8
