I actually figured it out myself; just remove the left six columns and the bottom six rows from the soup:

Code: Select all

x = 16, y = 16, rule = LifeHistory
.D.3D4A2.A.2A$D2.3D2.2A.A2.2A$4D2.2A4.A$2.3D2.2A4.2A$D7.A2.5A$3.2D.A

Thanks for 1) telling everyone and 2) reading the methuselae thread.

Specifically, in lifelib/soup/hashsoup.h, I added these lines (the if clause):

Code: Select all

            return bw;
        }

        if (symmetry == "10x10")
        {
            for(int i=0; i<10; i++) digest[2*i+1] &= 192;
            for(int i=20; i<32; i++) digest[i] = 0;
        }

        uint64_t a = 0;
        uint64_t b = 0;
EDIT: I honestly think it's a good idea to catagolue F/I above 100 (or 70, if that's too restrictive) for C1, not counting soups that spawn linear growth.

That is a great idea -- would people prefer F/I or F to be reported? They're roughly equivalent, because the initial population has a mean of 128 and standard deviation of 8 (and, by the Central Limit Theorem, is approximately Gaussian).

Merge requests on GitLab implementing that functionality would be most welcomely accepted. (What should the bin size be?)

In 10x10 the bin size is 1/1000th, but that's 1000x too much, so I say we round F/I.
For F, I say same as messless (100 bins.)
EDIT: On second thought, I think it's better to catagolue F. A good lower bound for F to submission is 3000 Although it's very, very common in 10x10, it's much rarer in C1 for unknown reasons.

Here's a haul with the "explode_" object: gol.hatsya.co.uk/haul/b3s23/C1/1d1102eb ... 16f16f5cbb

Soup:

Code: Select all

(please mark it blue I want to be first :mrgreen: )

I'm submitting the PR, with a few other modifications, mainly the 10x10 symmetry.

You still have the chance to be the first real person to discover a megasized soup:

They're red because they contain the 'explode_' objects.

I manage the 5S project, which collects all known spaceship speeds in Isotropic Non-totalistic rules. I also wrote EPE, a tool for searching in the INT rulespace.

Things to work on:
- Find (7,1)c/8 and 9c/10 ships in non-B0 INT.
- EPE improvements.
