This soup, in addition to producing a rare p30, also contains a reaction in which a glider+block delay a QB 12 ticks, shifting the block by three cells to cap the QB into a half-shuttle:

Unfortunately for the prospect of creating p42/72 gun-supported oscillators, I don't believe the glider can be placed in front of the QB if the QB is present flipped 15 ticks earlier. Could p54 potentially be achievable?

Generation 37 shows a simple synthesis of the bottom piece (domino + forming PI heptomino). The cauterizing lower block can be replaced by a glider. Since the pi+domino just form the W constellation (Ship+2 blocks+2 blinkers), the whole bottom can be replaced by 4 gliders.
Generation 23 also seems seems easy: cauterizing block (replaced by glider) from SW, forming honeyfarm from NW, forming R pentomino from NE, and 6-bit J thing in the middle. The R pentomino is apparent at generation 30. One additional glider from the NW cleans up all the southern junk.

currently working on the cryptocurrency implementation, where blocks are mined by finding rare objects* in b3s23/C1 soups. I've made a few other departures from Bitcoin, such as using lattice-based digital signatures instead of elliptic curves, which should future-proof this against quantum computers and number theory breakthroughs.

On the subject of speed improvements, 4.4 is still slower than 3.28 for me, or so it seems --- the (admittedly extremely unscientific) experiment of letting 4.4 run for a while, concurrently with 3.28, and compare the speeds, yielded about 1270 soups per (second times HT core) for 4.4, versus about 1370 for 3.28.
This was in C4_4, in case that may have made a difference (I doubt it should have though). I think I also accidently knocked off a zero from the 4.4 haul size, but even at 1 million soups per haul rather than 10 I expected the numbers to be closer to 3.28's...
FWIW my computer doesn't support the newer instruction sets (AVX1 is the most it'll do).
I'll happily test upcoming, new-and-improved!!! versions of 4.x though. (Alternatively I'll be happy to help diagnose what the reason for 4.x not having caught up on my computer might be.)

I run some gutter searches in B3/S23, mainly in D4_+1 and D8_1. The results are not amazing, but interesting. Of course much more gutter-based oscillators were found. I have the feeling that this is the case for oscillators which have a longer rotor (and usually large periods).
For instance there is this twin bee shuttle which appear (at the moment) 29times, but only once in standard D4+1:

In D4+1 we have about 2831billion objects, in my gutter D4+1 about 7.4billion. This makes the mentioned pattern about 11000 times more common in the gutter search. This makes me feel confident to continue on gutter searches. This is a similar one:

I feel like that's more interesting than you give it credit, as the long-hook on ship stays intact for a looong time before the quadpole conversion happens, which I like.
EDIT: Oh, also, my friend (matthew on the discord) has a hundred million-or-so-soup haul running since he's without wifi.

Turning a ship into a quadpole via the 6-cell bookend predecessor (see gen 18 ) has been the way to do it for quite some time now.
