Thread for the Honeybit Buffer

Post by Rhombic » July 5th, 2016, 1:14 pm

Firstly, the honeybit buffer is the following pattern, which has sparked a fair amount of interest due to its interactions with *WSS, gliders and potentially other spaceships, polyominos and derivatives:

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 8, rule = B3/S23
b2o$o2bo$o2bo$b2o3$2b2o$2b2o!

This thread is for the discussion of the applications and development of this pattern.

A phi-spark switches the "chirality" of the honeybit buffer (switches the block to the mirror image of the pattern):

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 14, rule = B3/S23
b3o$o3bo$o3bo$b3o3$4b2o$4b2o3$3b2o$2bo2bo$2bo2bo$3b2o!
Some more "chirality". A phi spark removes the pond if the overall position is trans [block acts as an eater] or removes the entire structure if cis:

Code: Select all

x = 15, y = 14, rule = B3/S23
b3o5b3o$o3bo3bo3bo$o3bo3bo3bo$b3o5b3o3$4b2o6b2o$3bo2bo4bo2bo$3bo2bo4bo
2bo$4b2o6b2o3$3b2o8b2o$3b2o8b2o!
I don't really know how to explain this but you can see it:

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 16, rule = B3/S23
3b2o$2bo2bo$2bo2bo$3b2o2$o$b2o$2o$5b2o$4bo2bo$4bo2bo$5b2o3$6b2o$6b2o!
Potentially an awkward construction - HBB+phi spark+glider --> beta heptomino in 25 generations

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 12, rule = LifeHistory
.2A$A2.A3.A$A2.A2.A2.2A$.2A3.A2.2A$7.A2$2.2A$2.2A4.3A$8.A$8.DA2D$8.3D
$9.D!
5 gliders (first 2 for a block, then 2 create a pond and destroy the HBB block, one destroys the HBB pond) create a new HBB in a different position with a different orientation (rotated 90º anticlockwise):

Code: Select all

x = 17, y = 28, rule = B3/S23
10bo$8b2o$9b2o8$b2o11bobo$o2bo10b2o$o2bo11bo$b2o3$2b2o$2b2o11bo$13b2o$
14b2o$10b2o$11b2o$10bo3$10b3o$10bo$11bo!
H to phi - destroying one HBB, simultaneously using the first reaction described on a different HBB(chirality switch):

Code: Select all

x = 23, y = 11, rule = B3/S23
b2o3b2o$o2bo2b2o$o2bo9bo$b2o10bobo4b2o$13b3o3bo2bo$15bo3bo2bo$20b2o3$
21b2o$21b2o!

Removing the pond attacking the block with a glider:

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 12, rule = B3/S23
8bo$7bo$7b3o2$2b2o$2b2o3$b2o$o2bo$o2bo$b2o!
