A syringe hooked up to a compatible SE-19 might do the trick but I can't see any in the latest converter collection.

Seems like it would be hard to get advancers that way, though you could certainly build a composite SE-19 that would delay a glider by various numbers of ticks.

Seems like if you want glider advancers, you're likely to be stuck with destroying and re-constructing at least a small constellation or two. The trick is to find constellations whose reconstruction is as cheap as possible.

Somewhere out there there's probably a single stable H-to-junk factory mechanism, that produces just the right junk for a glider to crash into and remove, producing a slightly advanced glider on the same path, plus an output signal that can be routed around to do the rebuilding... but how many useless H-to-junk converters are we willing to build and test, to find such an unlikely beast?
