Post by darkcodeninja » April 3rd, 2017, 1:01 am

I HAVE DISCOVERED A NEW METHUSELAH DESIGN!

Image

This new creation i dub "Hornets." it lasts for ~1100 generations and is made using only 13 cells! I am new here, so i don't really know if this is really that exciting or not... but here is is! :lol:

Rabbits lasts over 15 times as long as yours and uses only 9 cells.

Methuselahs are generally not interesting.

I happen to think methuselahs are somewhat interesting...

The lifespan of your methuselah is actually 2050 generations not 1100.
A little searching found this 30 generations predecessor of your pattern, which is just 8 on-cells in a 6-by-5 bounding box:

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 5, rule = LifeHistory
A$A$A2.3A$2.A$2.A!
My search found 62 different methuselahs with a lifespan longer than 2080 generations with at most 8 on-cells in a bounding box with an area of at most 30 cells.

Thank you for the predecessor you found! i had a limited viewing space so i didnt know how long it really lasted, i just assumed, but the predecessor you found is quite interesting! :)
