2o!

The mechanism looks known but I did not see it so far.
Edit1: The mechanism is in jslife p60 guns.

Population 70:

x = 52, y = 43, rule = B3/S23

But after one period, (at p=120) your predecessor of the gun did not produce an LWSS, but increases the population to 75 (the glider) excluding the boat. And of course there are multiple ways to remove more cells similarly, e.g. block-> preblock.

2718281828's gun is a predecessor as well!

I don't think so. After a full p240 cycle I can perfectly remove 2 LWSS.

Still population 73, but period 184 instead of 120:

x = 39, y = 63, rule = B3/S23

What do you do with ill crystallographers? Take them to the mono-clinic!

It's disappointing in a way. The original gun was so clever, and yet we could have done this all along.

That is most likely because no-one knew that 87P26 (or 53P13) had a spark, and even so, no-one knew it was capable of eating gliders.
