Thread for Explaining your Avatars

Post by praosylen » September 14th, 2014, 1:46 pm

I have seen many avatars around this site that I have no idea what they are. If you wish, feel free to post explanations of your avatars in this thread.

My avatar is a static image of the oscillator "A for all". There is a link to its page in my signature.

P.S. Does anyone know how to shrink an animated image? I would have used the animated image but it was too large. :(

The only decision I made was made
of flowers, to jump universes to one of springtime in
a land of former winter, where no invisible walls stood,
or could stand for more than a few hours at most...

There are some online tools like this one that you can use. Here is the A for all GIF at half size: http://i.imgur.com/CgfgsrA.gif

Mine is an anchor track, one of the more interesting oscillators in Live Free or Die (s0/b2). This one is the smallest iteration and is p12, but they are extensible and can have any period 4 * 2^n - 4.

My avatar is a still life I have found out to fulfill no less than four minization criteria:
  1. By diagonal width, smallest still life with 4-fold rotational symmetry (by cell count and bounding box it's tied with spiral)
  2. Smallest still life composed entirely of pentominoes
  3. Smallest still life that is a chain of four siamized smaller still lifes
  4. Smallest still life that completely encloses a 3×3 patch of empty cells (equivalently: an empty cell with no neighbors).
