Thread for your unfamiliar objects

Post by danieldb » October 29th, 2015, 5:45 pm

I think this should be a thread for people who ask what some thing is. For example, what is this called:

Code: Select all

x = 17, y = 17, rule = B3/S23
3b3o5b3o$3bo2bo3bo2bo$3bob2o3b2obo3$4b3o3b3o$2ob3obobob3ob2o$2b2o3bobo
3b2o$4b3o3b3o$4b3o3b3o6$5b2o3b2o$5b2o3b2o!

It's pufferfish... never mind.

This thread should still exist.

It's a pufferfish ... EDIT: as you've already discovered.

The name is on Catagolue, though until a search page is added that allows RLE or ASCII input as well as the mysterious apgcode encoding, I suppose it's not trivial for newcomers to find this kind of thing.

Perhaps change the thread title to something like "Thread for your unfamiliar objects", for more clarity?

I think I may have discovered a new still life. I couldn't find any documentation on it. :D

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 11, rule = B3/S23
$5bo$3b5o$2bo5bo$2bo2bo2bo$b2obobob2o$2bo2bo2bo$2bo5bo$3b5o$5bo!
The tub inside is stabilizing it. I've also discovered that it can be stabilized with a boat or a ship. It kind of looks like a picture frame and the object stabilizing it is the "picture". It also looks like a ship's steering wheel. In total, it consists of 28 cells (29 with a boat and 30 with a ship). If this has already been discovered, please let me know what it is called.

Yes. The p2 isn't very well known, but is extensible:

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 19, rule = B3/S23
b2o4b2o$bobo2bobo$3b4o$3bo2bo$2obo2bob2o$2obo2bob2o$3b4o$2obo2bob2o$2o

3bo2bo$bobo2bobo$b2o4b2o!
Just add an even number of blocks and extend the house. The simplest version is actuallly the spark coil.

The big ones are probably not known, but are trivial and not particularly notable.

Chances are, if it's a small still life, it's definitely known.
