I would like to try and build a half-baked knightship-like thing in another rule, but I don't know how to go about doing it. The core reaction would be this:

As you can see, the orthogonal spaceship interacts with a still life to displace it by (1,3), and survives unscathed while producing a diagonal spaceship backwards.

Is there anything missing? Should I rub the sparks together to produce an extra glider?

But you abandoned B37/S2-i34qy which had a similar potential with the T+block reaction. :?
[ignore-see below]Anyway, you should find a way to reflect the glider with another of the sparky ships to create a slow salvo. Also research slow salvo technology in that rule.[/ignore-see below] Also it's probably going to be hard because it's a heisenburp. It's going to be challenging at the least to hit one of those ships with a glider (They move at about 10c/22, faster than the c/4. (A (10,1)c/22 ship may be able to do it. You probably won't find one if you boot up ntzfind, though!)). (I found some of this out when I runned the HBK('s gun))

Nice potential camelship engine! But, yeah, there's still quite a lot missing.

1) If you look at the two sides of an HBK, you'll see that they're firing gliders in opposite directions. All the NW-traveling gliders in the world won't do you any good, unless they have something to bounce off of. And whatever that something is, it also has to move northeast at (1,-3) [Golly coordinate system].

So, yes, above your current line you might want to have a couple more rows of Weird Loaf Things With Eyes (WELOTHWEYs) being passed by Weird Sparky Line Things, and the sparks from those would have to be able to produce SE gliders.

2) You probably have to be able to produce NW and SE gliders with different timings to achieve Universal Construction Power. Unfortunately your Weird Sparky Line Things are 12c/28, so you can only place or not place a WELOTHWEY every 12 cells along -- there's no fine adjustability, like (1,1) with a half-bakery.

3) Once you have your NW and SE gliders, you have to collide them and produce... something. By rough analogy with the HBK, you'd probably want to make west-traveling Weird Sparky Line Things, which would head back to where the east-traveling WESPLITs are coming from.

4) The west-traveling WESPLITs will have to, maybe, crash into Unknown Something so as to slow-WESPLIT-contruct the right number of synchronized east-traveling WESPLITs at a (1, -3) offset, plus Unknown Something at the same (1,-3) offset, to start the whole cycle over again.

5) Way off in the east, the east-traveling WESPLITs probably have to crash into a Completely Different Unknown Something and get stopped cleanly.... except leaving the same Completely Different Unknown Something at a (1,-3) offset. Maybe some gliders generated down at the east end can take care of that, but it's not trivial.

It doesn't seem to me as if all of the above problems are solvable in any reasonable amount of time. Which just means that you probably shouldn't try to work by analogy to a half-baked knightship as much as I just did.

You'd have to find the strengths of this new rule and come up with an "over-unity" mechanism unique to WESPLITs and WELOTHWEYs -- figure out where and how you can send arbitrary numbers of gliders to crash into a target, with enough variation in lane and/or timing that you can get universal construction going.

It might well end up looking a lot more like a Caterloopillar than like an HBK -- but with an oblique direction of travel, it would be a Cameloopillar. That's likely to be a good bit trickier to work with than the orthogonal version, for some of the same reasons that the waterbear is so much more of a headache (and more impressive) than the shield bug and centipede.

Yup -- the Alien Life Lexicon, which somebody else is going to have to put together. The B3/S23 Lexicon is already huge enough that there's no way I'm going to let any foreign-rule terminology sneak in there...!

Sure, lots of them. Any G->2G with a rating of Ee0, Eo0, Oe0, or Oo0 will have both output gliders in the same phase. Take your pick, and if you don't like the output direction or spacing, just add Snarks. Actually I suppose by some definitions of "phase", you'll have to add Snarks to get the outputs to be in the same phase -- turn them so they're traveling the same direction, or opposite directions.

Or do you mean "in the same phase as the input glider"? That's also pretty easy to construct, but quite a bit less common. Here's a reasonably small example:

Where to find the smallest LWSS/MWSS/HWSS reflectors and guns in Life that supports the 3 more B3[8]/S23[8] or even other outer-totalistic rules? Also interested in listing 2 LWSS/MWSS/HWSS collisions. Thanks in advance!

Yes. It's a "loaf with bit", as in Loaf w/bit tie loaf in Mark Niemiec's database. There may be some other label, but that's the only name in current use that I can find offhand.

That 15-bit object seems to be the smallest still life that includes the loaf-with-bit as a component.
It's not named on Catagolue at the moment.

I've never paid a whole lot of attention to these, so all I know is there isn't any such billiard table with a 5x3 interior, but there is a series of larger 2xNs based on your first example:

You might not have to delete Golly, but you do have to search for your "GollyPrefs" file, and not just in the Golly folder -- there is probably one in your user directory that's storing keyboard shortcuts.

If you remove all GollyPrefs files that the Golly executable might be able to locate, it will write out a new GollyPrefs file for you with default settings.
