This is a Schick engine with two heavyweight spaceships. Sadly, it is known.

How do I stabilize the debris? i.e. how do I make it like just one block out of the back of the ship?

A good place to start is to download
Jason Summers' jslife collection, and look through the c2-extended subfolder. I haven't gone back and checked, but I seem to recall you'll find various example puffers based on the Schick engine in there, quite possibly including the p144 one you originally posted.
