Dotlife(B3/S023)

Post by Bullet51 » August 12th, 2015, 11:44 am

Although the rule is explosive, Dotlife shares many patterns with life.
To start this topic, here are some non-life patterns:

Still uses the tetromino engine, though - I guess it's DotLife's equivalent of the big glider.

Nice one, did you find it? I like how the only thing stopping it from working in normal Life is the single spark at the front.

Probably known already, but the B heptomino can be stabilized into a spaceship:

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 9, rule = B3/S023

I like this rule a lot, especially because after you've watched it for a while, you'll notice that the same sort of B-heptomino growth patterns occur in Life, they just die a lot faster.

And two have formed to the left by gen 5500. I don't know that this ship's that common, though, it just comes from a lot of patterns because lots of patterns have lots of things coming from them. That's what happens in a very explosive rule.
There is life on Mars. We put it there with not-completely-sterilized rovers.
And, for that matter, the Moon, Jupiter, Titan, and 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko.

This rule could do with more investigation! I've noticed that the R-pentomino (the only methusaleh pentomino in Conway) explodes in this rule - maybe the smallest exploder in Dotlife? And the resulting splodge emits plenty of those "stabilised B-heptomino" SS's - as well as stable versions of the dirty puffer based on that ship.

Other Conway methusalehs, on the other hand, like 'acorn', do not explode in Dotlife - instead they vanish.

I created a rotationally symmetric explosion just by putting together two R-pentominoes.

There are many:

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 3, rule = B3/S023
3bo$o4bo$3bo!

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 4, rule = B3/S023

EDIT: I think dani's is the best for the bounding box though.
EDIT: Along with this one:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 5, rule = B3/S023
o$2bo$o2$2bo!
EDIT: Meanwhile, we have a candidate for "longest methuselah made out of four cells that doesn't explode" (88 gens).

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 5, rule = B3/S023
o$2bo$o2$o!
Second and third place don't come remotely close.

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 3, rule = B3/S023
4bo$obo$4bo!

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 3, rule = B3/S023

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 9, rule = B3-jqr/S01c2-in3

The eater for the B ship is, well, just that.

Code: Select all

x = 24, y = 8, rule = B3/S023
