It seems like you are the first to investigate this rule. As you mentioned, these are pretty common, as it interestingly has this predecessor:
x = 3, y = 4, rule = B378/S238
o$2o$obo$bo!
Which in Life, is a pretty common blinker predecessor. I guess it's safe to assume that these are common in this Life variant :)
