Well, it not quite eats it: the output glider is misplaced and rephased.

Very nice! Thanks guys. (Unfortunately, whenever new converts like this show up, it takes me a long time to update the database, because they can have repercussions on many syntheses, sometimes even hundreds.)

D8-symmetric Garden-of-Eden, bounding box is 11x11, orphan size is 93, number of on-cells is 65.

What is the program you used to verify this orphan, and others like it? I'm interested in knowing.

By the way, I think either of these two threads is more suitable for posting things about Gardens of Eden or orphans:

Hello again, FractalFusion!
FractalFusion wrote:What is the program you used to verify this orphan, and others like it? I'm interested in knowing.
it's some custom made bruteforcer with backtracking and some optimizations, a bit too dirty to publish it as is.
you just gave me an idea to re-verify it with SAT generator i've used before that.
FractalFusion wrote:By the way, I think either of these two threads is more suitable for posting things about Gardens of Eden or orphans
yep, seen it, thought it's too old.
i've also found GoE with 45 on-cells in 11x11 box, same as current record but D8, will post it soon.

Slow salvo synthesis for still life in the small MWSS-to-G. What's silly but useless about it is that the catalyst does a catalysis immediately after forming.

Unfortunately the gliders couldn't have gotten to that point without interacting first. Try moving them both back 8 generations (2 cells) to see for yourself.

The best R synthesis is 3 gliders, though in many cases only 2 need to be synchronized.

I have done some (silly) component mining, and the most interesting result:

Code: Select all

#C Converts a table to a 15-cell component.
x = 26, y = 16, rule = B3/S23
6bo$2b3o$o3bo2bo3b2o$bo3bo8bo$4bo7bo2bo$7bo2b3obo$bo2bob2o$obo4bo4bo$

bo14bobo$o8b2o2bo7b2ob2o$ob2o7bo!
And a soup reported as a +cap component, which indeed swallows the bi-table and make a table+cap elsewhere:

Code: Select all

x = 26, y = 16, rule = B3/S23
3bo6bo$12bo$bo13bo$ob2o6bo4bo$2bo2bobobobo2b2o$obo3bo8bo$3o3bo8bo$3bo
2b2obo$2bob2o2b2o5bo$b2o5bo$4bo2bo5bobo$5bo3b2obo2bo5b2ob2o$2bo6bobo2b
o7bobo$5obo5b2o8bobo$4bo2bo6bo6b2ob2o$3bo2bo3bobo!
Still drifting.
