Gridhood: ConwayLife.com Edition!

Post by KittyTac » May 29th, 2018, 3:44 am

This is a game originally played on... I think chocolatepi forums? Then it was ported onto Bay12 Forums by Supernerd (credits to them) and started a fad there. Let's continue it here.

In this game you can choose to either play as a god or a civilization. The two things are mutually exclusive, meaning you can only be one thing at any given time. Civilization players need to work on tiles to get resources and basically not die, while god players compete with eachother for mortal worship and make changes to the grid world. The world evolves according to GOL rules.

Playing as a god:
You start with 5 FP. You can (for now) do one thing:

Make a grid cell alive or dead. 1 FP. This action can be performed any number of times as long as your FP is sufficient. More will be added as you go on. This ability has to be used each turn at least once.

You gain 1 FP each turn.

Beware that if you somehow reach -1 or less FP, you die!

Playing as a civilization:
You have to set up on an alive tile. You start with 3 people, which consume 1 food each. An alive tile produces 1 or 2 unit of food. Each person can pray to a god, which gives them 1 FP, forage to actually get that unit of food from a specified tile, or research a user-specified technology, which will take a GM-specified number of research actions. Foraging can be done on adjacent tiles. More will be added as you go on.

Calling dibs on D14 as a civv. I assume if the civ's tile turns dead it's game over for me?

When does the evolution step take place? At the end of each turn? How do I move my people?
Searching:

Currently looking for help searching these rules.

Yes, yes, and you cannot until you research a tech.

A way to add risk to being a god could be forcing that player to place at least one cell each turn, regardless of how much FP he or she has.

Code: Select all

x = 81, y = 96, rule = LifeHistory
58.2A$58.2A3$59.2A17.2A$59.2A17.2A3$79.2A$79.2A2$57.A$56.A$56.3A4$27.
A$27.A.A$27.2A21$3.2A$3.2A2.2A$7.2A18$7.2A$7.2A2.2A$11.2A11$2A$2A2.2A
$4.2A18$4.2A$4.2A2.2A$8.2A!

Or basing FP off of how many people have your faith?

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 9, rule = B3-jqr/S01c2-in3
3bo$4bo$o2bo$2o2$2o$o2bo$4bo$3bo!

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 5, rule = B3/S2-i3-y4i
4b3o$6bo$o3b3o$2o$bo!
