A question

Why didn't Life-like cellular automata get invented much earlier? The rules are incredibly simple, and it doesn't need computers to play.

I mean, sometime in history somebody probably came up with the idea, but nobody thought to publish it until JHC? There have been plenty of math discoveries that seem incredibly simple in hindsight (like the X-Y coordinate plane)

Currently looking for help searching these rules.

usually i just change the algorithm to ruleloader and back to quick/hashlife
if it's a big pattern, you can paste empty rle such as

Code: Select all

x = 0 y = 0 rule = B3/S23
provided you set golly to "change rule if one is specified"
c(>^w^<c)~*
