Statorless p3 oscillator

Post by Jason Summers » August 19th, 2012, 8:10 pm

I found this p3 oscillator that has no stable cells. I think it's the first one known.

Code: Select all

x = 31, y = 28, rule = B3/S23

Larger specimens can be made using these components:

Code: Select all

x = 66, y = 18, rule = B3/S23

your second one doesn't work.

It is a partial pattern to show how larger oscillators could be created. For example:

Code: Select all

x = 100, y = 43, rule = B3/S23

Are there any known p4 oscillators in which every cell oscillates at period-4?

No, the only such periods known to me are 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 13, 15, 30, 33, and 177.

There is also this period-22 oscillator discovered by Nicolay Beluchenko:

Code: Select all

x = 16, y = 16, rule = B3/S23
