Very nice! I don't think there were any known pure-Blockic spaceship recipes until now (except the obvious expensive ones, splitting and synchronizing two gliders aimed at a block).

I just spent a few minutes with Paul Chapman's new Seeds of Destruction applet, and came up with a tighter variant of the MWSS seed:

Here's a 6-block seed that produces a couple of output gliders as well as an LWSS. Not that that's any kind of improvement -- things like this must be a dime a dozen. It's the 5-block (and 4-block?) seeds that seem to be the rare gems in this search space.

It doesn't keep the spacing between the gliders constant, obviously, but you can't have everything... It can be hooked up to itself to make a reasonably efficient Blockic delay circuit for a single glider:

Probably quite useless, except for very odd situations in self-destructing circuitry, but fun to watch.

Also there's a G+2B4 megaspark reaction that allows for a simultaneous existence test for three blocks. If you add a block at the spark's edge in any of three locations, you get a glider out -- and none of the outputs interfere with each other:

A few more blocks also gave me my first new Blockic LWSS-producing reaction (right side, above), though it doesn't seem to be competitive with knightlife's 6-block recipes.

Short summary: the Seeds of Destruction applet seems to be able to reach a huge amount of new search space -- anyone who enjoys crashing gliders into things should give it a try!

There is a 2-block seed that makes an LWSS with plenty to clean up:

Now you get two LWSS from just 3 blocks, but quite a challenge to clean up. As a Blockic seed it would still be a record if it took a total of 11 blocks to make the two LWSS since so far it takes 6 to make one LWSS.

Many times, no doubt! I rediscovered it using the applet yesterday, and sent the pattern along to Paul as a possible "unsolved puzzle" to add (how to clean up with three blocks or less).

Oddly enough, I also stumbled on that pattern yesterday -- the applet seems to make it fairly quick to find the good stuff, even though the only filter so far is the exact same neural net that MikeP used to discover the Snark:

You can say that again! With that big a cleanup problem, you almost might as well go for broke and try cleaning up one of the obvious composite 6-block seeds that makes an LWSS in all four directions:

There are four pi+block reactions that output a LWSS (no M/HWSSes). The one just posted is indeed the cleanest and fastest; the next smallest already seems much less viable for cleanup.
