What, rule Y?
Someone will need a synthesis for the reflector/splitter before we can make UC technology.
We need that 2718281828 guy.

Would this be the first explosive isotopic 2-state nontotalistic rule with an engineered spaceship?
Probably! I wanna go for a record! :)

Okay... I need to calm down a bit. So I will make a collection for G+common objects and then make a slow salvo for the reflector.

Are there any versions of SLmake which can accept any rule given a G and a target SL?

No need for SLmake, I'm good at "mannually" making things.

Also, I can't edit pattern from Monday to Friday.

1. Still, a SLmake relative could be useful in the future.

2. School, huh? I’m homeschooled (right now) so things are less time-consuming, though that doesn’t mean I can constantly check the forums on weekdays. My afternoons are nonetheless typically free.

Wow, another homeschool guy!
I was homeschooled for a long time, but just stucked into school a few weeks ago.

Yep, SLmake will be useful.

well, you'd need to slow-salvo honeysearch it first, with a custom glider, so...

Homeschooled people bump into more things on the internet. They also have more spare time because they spend more time in class learning effectively (while in brick-and-mortar schools you may be way ahead or behind your classmates and may thus waste more time not learning.) Assuming there is some satisfiable “learning minimum” for a day, you’d expect homeschoolers to reach it sooner and have more spare time. For instance, I’m spending typically about 30 minutes at most on math while routinely making progress on khan academy (around 1-2% every day of the differential calculus course). Compare this to those around my age in grade school, who might spend more like 45 minutes on average on math to make similar progress (they COULD be learning calculus; I don’t find it difficult to grasp, so I imagine neither would they if some of them could just get over the weird (to me (why don’t people use nested parentheses?)) “yuck, learning” thing.), because they might spend fifteen minutes unproductively because there’s maybe just one problem that they don’t understand. They need to wait for a teacher to come around, but all teachers may already be working with a student. Compare this with homeschooling. If you need help, you’ll get it substantially faster.

Anyways, there’s my seven gazillion cents. And Dvgrn paragraph.
This is getting off topic. We can discuss it further in random posts or something without frustrating people about repeated off-topic posts.

Hey, the push is a knightwise push which pushs 1 cell and move horizonally 2 cells. Sorry for double postingbut Im on a mobile service

same color 2gs raises two different preblock constelations, 1g, and some mess: One produces the first gun in this thread(and in my signature, too) with a loaf-missing-first-row(lets call is L) and two 3o$obo!s andd... uh I cant remember.

other one preduces a preblock and two glider

For the 3q rule:
A small improvement for the min. repeat time of the splitter:

Code: Select all

x = 19, y = 44, rule = B2e3iq4at/S1c23cijn4ay
$10bobo$11bo20$10bobo$10b3o3$15b2o$3b2ob2o8bo$4bobo2$16bo$15b2o4$9b2o$
10bo3$10bo$8b2o$8bobo!
Still it is quite large.
Still I doubt that an orthonoid is within reach.

A design should look somehow like this

Code: Select all

x = 46, y = 76, rule = B2e3iq4at/S1c23cijn4ay
$34bobo$35bo21$34bobo$34b3o2$16bo$15b2o22b2o$27b2ob2o8bo$15b2o11bobo$
16bo$2b2o36bo$3bo4bo30b2o$2bobo2b2o3$33b2o$34bo2$10bo$10b2o22bo$32b2o$
32bobo28$12bo$12b2o!
The problem is that this rule is not reactive enough to support different reactions with the high repeat time of above 40 for shooting at a target. Most reactions take less than 30 ticks or create a puffer/rake/breeder, and slow salvo construction from one lane is not rich enough. And even if it is possible, it will be much larger than the one in dominoplex (which is already quite small).

well Im not experiemented. Thats just an idea. I didnt expect it is smaller than the dominoplex one since that one is pretty engineerable while this is not.

That is no surprise, comparing the size of the splitters/reflectors.
I still think that this should be attempted because it’s a “challenge in engineering”.
Perhaps we can even find a different way to make a self-constructing spaceship (multiple different places to shoot from rather than one single channel arm might be a good start, though it would be expensive) that could benefit CGoL.
Or not.

Regardless, I think it can be a fun, if not useful, project.

Yep, that's just a thing to work on, not meant to be something useful.

I will make the different color 2G tabulations today, wonder if theres surpirsing results.

Ok, now we have the stable converter G-to-M, which leads to better slow salvos, but why cant we use original G?

EDIT: Okay, I think we must uses L or M now, because the G basically doesn't work for depth=2.

I didn't found any interesting reactions on that still life. Expect for this reaction which makes L synthesisable:

Code: Select all

7bo$7bo2bo$8bobo$9bo7$obo$2o2bobo$3bob2o!
And cleanups, too

which means we have 13G synthesis for L. (Probably suboptimal, and really expensive, but this is the best I can get so far.)

We could just use that splitter (repeat time 43) to make as many Ls as needed. Of course, whether that would be any use in practice is another matter.

Speaking of the splitter,

Oh yeah. Wait... I'm messing the rules? Your version also includes S4y!!

That means. I have to restart. Sadly.

EDIT: With the correct rule, here for a 4G L:

Code: Select all

Oops, it seems there's a lot of works ahead of me: there's so many options at depth=1, so I think I will need an SLMake, too.

So that collection have 2 push, 6 pull, 8 duplicate, 1 strange SL.

Adding B7 to the original rule makes it apgsearchable and keeps the gun; the recommended haul size is around 5000 soups.

Code: Select all

x = 46, y = 12, rule = B2e3i4at7/S1c23cijn4a
43b2o$42bo2bo5$o2bo$4o3$4o$o2bo!
Comparison to original:

Code: Select all

x = 46, y = 12, rule = B2e3i4at/S1c23cijn4a
43b2o$42bo2bo5$o2bo$4o3$4o$o2bo!
I'm not sure about the Y-rule yet, since the explosions in that rule are due to the sheer abundance of linear growth that can readily interact with each other and make a huge mess, Star Wars-style.

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 30, rule = B2e3iq4at/S1c23cijn4ay
b2o$3bo$b2o2$b2o$3bo$3bo$2bo$2o14$2o$bo$bo$2o2$2o$2bo$2o!

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 3, rule = B3-q4z5y/S234k5j
