On a side note, this combination of a pi and T I discovered a long time ago. It is a methuselah, which stabilises in 946 generations. I know it can be synthesised with three gliders but I don't know how:

Did you find this with Dean Hickerson's drifter search program? There is a collection of signal injectors found by Dean here. There is also this p11 double-length signal injector that I found a while back:

It always seemed really strange to me that so many structures designed for standard 2c/3 signals also work just as well for double-length signals. I just checked that the standard-signal eater on the p7 injector also works for double-length signals -- see below.

I don't know if Dean Hickerson's 2c/3 elbow is commonly known: it converts a standard signal to a double-length signal, though not fast enough to handle a p7 input of course! If it were possible to suppress two out of three of the signals somehow, you could turn a corner every 21 ticks:

It only works for one corner, though, since there's no known way to get back to a standard signal from a double-length one -- you'd have to convert back to gliders or Herschels and build a standard-signal recipe starting from scratch.

I think this is an important point for anyone trying to find a signal turner. The double-length signal seems to be about as common as the single length signal, so it would likely be beneficial to try starting a search with the double-length signal. Here is another pattern (left) that has the same double-length-signal-producing reaction as the failed signal turner (right). (compare the reactions starting at generation 16):

I found this 17 cell methuselah that unfortunately only runs aroun 4K generations but I thought was neat:

Very interesting reaction there; might be possible to tease a better stable MWSS-output conduit out of it? The basic reaction is an R catalyzing a loaf into the MWSS:

Obviously they are new, great! There must be a wealth of c/6 technolgy out there waiting to be discovered, although this is cumbersome.

We still lack a useful spark to build more complex structures. Keep on searching for something similar to the c/5 spider based technology.

I have already searched (i think) completely up to a height of 9 for c/6 orthogonal spaceships, but I would like independent confirmation before I claim that no height-9 ships exist.

I have completed the searches for width (height?) 9 and 10 for c/6 orthogonal spaceships (with a version of gfind.) EDIT: retracting the above statement about what searches I've completed. Found some bugs in my code.
In fact, the pushalongs I posted came from partial patterns in the width 10 search.

I finally found this after posting an already-discovered pattern to the LifeWiki :lol: Anyway, I read on the wiki that the smallest known glider synthesis of the R-pentomino contains 3 gliders; I looked this up because I had found one with 2 gliders. Here's the plaintext file:

The problem with that two-glider synthesis is that the gliders can't actually come from far away and get to those locations. If you "rewind" the gliders by one tick, you'll see that they interact in the previous generation -- so you end up with a traffic light instead of an R-pentomino.

So I guess what you've discovered is an important but annoying rule about glider constructions: gliders are really good at finding ways to interact before they're supposed to...!

Ah, thanks for the info ^^' Now to actually attempt to find REAL new patterns :lol:
My (idiotic) mistakes lead me to the idea of a sort of pattern-oriented Life simulator. This has probably been done before, but I happen to be a programmer. I think it's a good project to take on. :P

Hi, I'm new and have been playing for a couple of months now, and I think I've found something that's interesting enough to go on this page :D . It's A symmetrical methuselah (5 x 15, pop = 15) that stabilises at gen. 4918, (pop = 1632). There should be a way to alter it so that it lasts longer when not symmetrical, and I don't know if the 12 cells on the left are the minimal for creating the pattern needed.
Please note that I could have been an idiot because I didn't bother looking if anyone else had discovered this before... :D
