Fireship[1] is a c/10 orthogonal spaceship discovered by Simon Ekström on 20 March 2016[2] when looking for tagalongs for the copperhead. It is not considered a true tagalong (although it is commonly referred to as one) due to one phase of the tagalong interacting with the block.[3]
Due to the huge tail spark it produces, it has been used to create c/10 puffers and rakes using a glider loop system.
Reactions
Tanner Jacobi noticed that the rear end of the fireship can be attached to two other fireships, thus allowing for ships of arbitrary size,[4] and these are true tagalongs. Nico Brown built a puffer and a rake using copperheads with tagalongs to make a signal loop.[5]
Synthesis
Nico Brown found a 30-glider synthesis of the fireship on March 21, 2016.[6] Goldtiger997 and gmc_nxtman found a 20-glider synthesis of the fireship on July 11, 2017.[7]
