Four eaters hassling four bookends is a period-18 oscillator that was discovered by Jason Summers and Gabriel Nivasch on October 16, 2002.
A 45-glider synthesis of this oscillator was found by Mark Niemiec the month of its discovery.[1] On July 27, 2023, KtT found a 40-glider synthesis,[2][3] followed by Chris857 finding a 35-glider synthesis and a 34-glider synthesis on July 30, 2023.[4][5][6]
This oscillator first appeared semi-naturally on March 13, 2017, in a symmetric soup submitted to Catagolue by benetnasch85.[7]
