Dave Greene is a Life enthusiast currently residing in the United States.

Some of his most notable contributions to the Game of Life were the construction of the boojum reflector, which was the smallest and fastest known 180-degree stable reflector from 2001 until 2009. He also constructed the first non-glider gun that fires spaceships that travel at a speed other than c/2 (see p416 60P5H2V0 gun) in 2003. In 2004 he and Paul Chapman built the Chapman-Greene construction arm. In November 2013 he found the linear propagator, the first true replicator in the Game of Life.

Greene is a member of the Golly Gang. He is a co-author, with Nathaniel Johnston, of the book Conway's Game of Life: Mathematics and Construction.

Notes

  1. Greene's userpage states that he was born on "Paul Revere's Ride Day in 1970", but it's not immediately clear if this refers to the anniversary of the event itself (April 18),[1] or the Cambridge City Council's "Paul Revere's Ride Day" (December 18)[2] which commemorates the publication of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem about the event. However, a forum post by Greene states that he was "10 years old" in June 1980, implying the former.[3]
