Re: P3+ Oscillator Puffers
Okay. Finally figured out how to do a direct generator using the 12-way synthesis. It involved fiddly bumping of the gliders over and over and over again. Ugh. Also, necessarily spaced out 2x more than the other puffer. But, you can just stack them to get higher density. Rough cut, not optimized muc...

Re: P3+ Oscillator Puffers
Where did you run into trouble exactly, with the 12 glider synthesis? I haven't done many glider rake constructions, so I could easily be missing an obvious choke point... but it looks as if those four salvos can come in from any distance with no trouble at all: Of course, you will definitely end u...

Re: P3+ Oscillator Puffers
Oh, I guess I could do that. Was trying for maximum density though. I started it with p60s and only switched to p120s out of desperation halfway through. I might make a minimal version after I finish optimizing this hulky one.Extrementhusiast wrote:No, I meant turning the p60s into p120s.

Re: P3+ Oscillator Puffers
You could get rid of about half of the rear rakes by doubling the period of the front rakes (which of course would double the pseudoperiod of the whole thing, but not the actual period). If you mean the C/2 P60s at the front, I looked into C/2 P30s but the ones I could find are way uglier than 2 P6...

Re: P3+ Oscillator Puffers
I have been optimizing the Kok's galaxy puffer when I have some spare time. I found a lot of space in the foretrain and some redundancy. I was using an unneeded bank shot to turn the last boat into a ship, but the shot that does it doesn't care about the internal structure, so to get the last two co...

Nice!Kazyan wrote:I don't think you're going to find one that spits out caterers as a natural ash byproduct anytime soon--they're very rare objects--but here's a puffer that synthesizes some.

Re: Thread for your unsure discoveries
Who is the author of this p24 c/4 rake? I haven't found it in common collections. I found it in life-status.zip at http://entropymine.com/jason/life/status.html in the /c4o folder as c4o-0024-rake.lif As presented (unhelpfully uncredited): #C x = 65, y = 66, rule = B3/S23 30bo3bo$30bo3bo$29bobobobo...

Re: Thread for your unsure discoveries
Hmm, I see. Per the second link, part of the flying wing can be isolated as another example easily... Conversely, you can build a flying-wing-type growing spaceship out of your original example: I was thinking maybe "tethered spaceship", by analogy to "tethered rake", where support for a moving act...

P3+ Oscillator Puffers
tl;dr: Anyone have any puffer trains that leave only 3-period (or higher) oscillators? While messing around with golly (after a few years gathering dust) I accidentally made an interesting rake combination that left a clean row of pulsar: x = 73, y = 99, rule = B3/S23 2$17b2o$16b4o$16b2ob2o$18b2o15b...

Re: Thread for your unsure discoveries
I don't think there's a name per se , but this concept has been discussed a couple of times . Hmm, I see. Per the second link, part of the flying wing can be isolated as another example easily: x = 27, y = 28, rule = B3/S23 16bo$17bobobo$19bo2bo$22b2o$24bo$22b4o$14bo6bo4bo$14bob2o5bo2bo$17bo5b o2bo...

Re: Thread for your unsure discoveries
Blinker + 3 gliders makes bakery + blinker. Give just the right period/speed rake, and this makes a strange puffer, where the debris goes off in another direction and period. Is there a name for things like this? Specifically. how it diverges in direction. # Divergent pseudoperiod P76 bakery puffer ...
