Re: Birthdays
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALEXEY NIGIN!!! Thank you very much! I must admit I haven't been very active lately, mostly because I have been spending my free time making spaceships that move way faster than light and are equipped with all kinds of guns... Also because I am moving to another country. Still, I wil...

Pattern of the Year 2016 (Results)
Dear Cellular Automata folks, I am pleased to announce the winners of the latest Pattern of the Year competition. -------- 1. Caterloopillars (49 stars) Previously, all engineered spaceships had speeds that were either fixed (Caterpillar) or adjustable but always very low (Gemini). Caterloopillars h...

Re: I THINK I FOUND A NEW STILL LIFE!!!!
I don't think so, given that the voting system of these polls is not at all flexible, and adding anonymity to Pattern of the Year would probably do more harm than good.calcyman wrote:If there weren't a 10-item limit, this would be perfect for the POTY contest.

Re: I think I found a new still life
I was messing around in golly and found something that looked like a smaller version of pond. Correct me if i'm wrong, but I don't think it's on the still life wiki page. (http://conwaylife.com/wiki/Category:Still_lifes) Hello, and welcome to the forums! Since pond has only 8 cells, it's not surpri...

Re: Close life variants
I have recently been comtemplating an idea of a program which could look for oscillators, wicks, agars, waves and maybe even spaceships in all 2-state rules with less-than-or-equal-to-Moore neighbourhood. Any progress? Or was this scrapped? Here is a PM I wrote a while back: No. I don't like promis...

Re: fuse
@Alexey_Nigin Remember, this is the Sandbox. We probably shouldn't judge people's posts on the supposed "quality" of the patterns they contain. Yeah, looking at it again, I see that my post can look rude; this was not intended, and I apologize for this. However, I don't think that the Sandbox is a ...

Re: fuse
Fuses are generally not very interesting unless they are either clean or reburnable. Clean means that the fuse leaves nothing behind it. An example is the blinker fuse, which was among the ones you posted. Here is its (kind of) canonical form: x = 137, y = 5, rule = B3/S23 2o2bob2o$5obobo$8bob3ob3ob...

Re: 3D zoomable Conway's viewer
The "P3 agar" in your collection isn't an agar; in fact, it dies after a few generations. While I am at it, you can do much better than showing small pieces of agars. Since your program simulates Life on a torus, it seems feasible to make agars fill the entire universe.

Wavefront
A duoplet propagates through the oscillator like a wavefront.
