Re: Does this pattern approach a perfect circle?

Just because the flat bits grow doesn't mean it doesn't approximate a circle. If the flat bits grow in length as o(sqrt(n)), then in the limit they are gone.

Re: The Hunting of the Elementary Conduits

To a first approximation it's a category , where the objects are things like H and R, and the morphisms are conduits. There is a functor from this category to the monoid of natural numbers (where a conduit is mapped to the delay) and another functor to the automorphism group of Z^2 (which encodes h...

A modified version, where, instead of red cells becoming blue when exactly three neighboring cells are blue and not exactly three are green (and the cell wouldn't stay red), they become green. This means that red affects green and blue, and green affects blue, but blue no longer affects green. The p...

None of those are spaceships. They're all oscillators. Try doing things on an infinite plane, that'll avoid errors.

Linear growth, but wow x = 10, y = 7, rule = B2c35/S02 7bo$2bo$2obo2bob2o$6bob2o$2obo2bob2o$2bo$7bo! I'm fairly certain that grows at ω(x) - in other words, superlinear, but not necessarily very much so. At the very least, it should grow at least as fast as xb(x), where b(x) is the inverse of the b...

Re: Meta-meta-blinker

I prefer the following definition of omnivelocitality: CA C is omnivelocital if there is a real x s.t. for all a,b,p (a≥b, a/p<x, a,b,p coprime), there is an n such that there is a spaceship with period and speed (an, bn)c/pn. Note that this is speed less than x in l^∞ norm, not l^1 norm usually use...

The proof shows that the leading edge can't enter a half-diagonal more than once every other generation.
In other words, your statement makes no sense.

Re: Caterloopillar WIP (all speeds < c/4)

I think this calls for an overhaul. My approach would be a list of sporadic velocities (by small spaceships and fixed-speed tracks), and then a couple lines for each VSS, detailing possible velocities.

Re: Caterloopillar WIP (all speeds < c/4)

Is it possible to place the initial target much nearer to the correct lane by simply lengthening the gap between the head of the ship and the first loaf? If not, why?

Out of curiosity, why do you spend so much effort on pushing the initial target all the way out?
It seems like it could be placed with a single glider collision, considering how the initial block is formed.

Re: is this c/10 spaceship known?

Actually those warnings will give bad printouts. They may also cause stack problems. It is very important to change those instances of %d to %ld. (On OSX, sizeof(int)==4, sizeof(long)==8).

(I had to deal with this quite a bit in a completely unrelated project I'm doing.)
