Re: I'm making a new Methuselah
Apologies for the necromance, but is growth rate a thing, and how would I measure it? Would I need to somehow work out an average, by working out how many cells there are every 200 generations, or something like that? My methuselah appears to grow pretty quickly here. I'll try and figure something o...

DryLife (B37/S23) Exploration Thread
I thought DryLife was very interesting, so I made a thread about it. Post any stuff you've found in DryLife, if you can. 8YwKexI.png - Indefinetly growing pattern. It's creating somewhat complex stuff, like boats with tails and pulsars. In this rule, it seems that patterns rarely stabilize at all. L...

Re: About the other rules
I found a strange rule:
23/28/256
EDR (Explode, Decay, Repeat)
Explodes, decays, then repeats.
it's intresting.

Re: About the other rules
Is this your first time venturing into other rules? You can find a list of many named ones here on the Life Wiki. Here you can find the names of basic methuselahs for Life. If you're looking for Methuselahs in other rules, I'm not sure where to find that myself. I'd like to think that the term woul...

Re: Introductions
May as well join in. I'm Brandon, and I'm facinated by GoL. It kinda started a while ago while reading a book, finding about the chaos theory, and when looking in further, I found out the GoL thing. When I first was messing about with it, it was my intentions to try and create a soup to see what wou...

Re: My stupid challenge
Does this count? Wow... This takes on the order of 2^^^^^^^(2^^^^^^(2^^^^^(2^^^^(2^^^(2^^(2^n)))))) generations to stabilize, if I'm not mistaken (unless all the debris from the spacefiller could produce a replicator or something that causes the pattern to explode). Anyway, here is an idea of how t...

About the other rules
Are there names for other rules, and known methulsahs and such? And how do we check the similar ones to see if they work? becuase I've been experimenting, and some rules apparently only allow for very simple still lifes (B6/S23) or only allow blinkers. (Can't remember the rule that does this) For ex...

Re: Conway's Game Of Life PVP game
Wait wait wait. You're the Britannian Rebels? Damn you! I'm the Cathusian Forces, BTW. I'm learning, but yeah. Damn I messed up that gosper glider gun. Yeah that's me. I like all the names of your various units, it's a fun way to learn the strange ways of this game - the goals are so different from...

Re: My stupid challenge
And you're not allowed to use third party programs, right? You do it by trial and error? Also, is there a size limit to the starting configuration? This sounds kind of fun to me, though life veterans (e.g. NOT me) might find it boring. I may give it a try. Nope, no size limit, but no 3rd party prog...

My stupid challenge
Try to make a never-seen before Methulasah from scratch, and whoever's that takes the longest to stabilise wins. (Also biggest population, maybe, I don't know.) No 3rd party programs other than golly and that browser-based one. The size limit for number of cells is 150 No area limit You have until S...

Re: Conway's Game Of Life PVP game
I use Golly to run simulations of the upcoming battle, but yeah, it's cool. You emulate the whole board? That must take ages! And I thought my setup took a long time. I found that game from Reddit as well. Just broke top 5 with my indomitable pulsar army... muahahaha. Wait wait wait. You're the Bri...

Re: I'm making a new Methuselah
Oh. Ah well. Anyway, I put a block under the pattern, so it lasts for about 2,700 generations. I guess that's progress. I'll update the thread anyway. You should try other things, like beehive , boat , tub , blinker , ship , and loaf Oh okay. I guess I will experiment more. There's probably somethi...

I'm making a new Methuselah
Probably been made before, but ah well. Made it from randomly placed blocks. I found a pattern that lasts 2,713 generations, I'm hoping to change it slightly each time to see if it lasts longer than 2,713 generations. Wish me luck. 5K1Glsz.png Detailed info about the Methuselah (So far): >Lasts 2,71...

Conway's Game Of Life PVP game
It's rather interesting browser-based game; it's what got me interested in Golly. I use Golly to run simulations of the upcoming battle, but yeah, it's cool. The aim of the game is to have more of your units surving at the end. I've tried using Methuselahs, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't....
