Re: Thread for basic non-CGOL questions

Is there even a way to stabilize the switch engine in that rule at all? I was able to make these three corderships from the things in my cordership collection that actually worked at all. Two are mutually-canceling puffers, and one just happened to work in this rule as a spaceship as well. x = 288,...

Re: Thread for basic non-CGOL questions

Why are Corderships so much harder to find in B3/S236e, the one other rule where the switch engine works?

Re: Catagolue Discussion Thread

On the other hand, that soup does mean that it is possible for a 2-engine cordership to show up in Catagolue, we'll get one eventually.
Edit: So, in other words, "Theoretically natural".

Unfortunately we do not have a SHA-256 hash for the one-bit-modified C1 soup that produces it, so it cannot be counted as natural.
I'm saying that BECAUSE that still life is asymmetrical, it wasn't helped by the symmetry of the soup, and would not have been any more likely to form.

I'm pretty confident there is a p2 photon in this rule. I need someone to keep exploring with JLS.

Sorry, but I'm a bit confused. Didn't you say that LSSS was better than JLS for this kind of stuff?

Re: Oscillator Discussion Thread

It might be better to create at least the domino spark with other gliders in order to make clearance less of a hassle. Brilliant. I'd say to use a glider and an LWSS or something like that-creating it with gliders would likely require one glider to be on a nearby lane to the glider that you're spar...

Re: Catagolue Discussion Thread

I'd still consider it natural, since symmetry wouldn't help with the formation of an asymmetrical object.

Re: Oscillator Discussion Thread

I like that idea, but the hard part is going to be turning the glider back around, since you're already sparking it from both sides. Indeed; to avoid interfering with the returning glider, you'd need a high-period domino sparker with considerable clearance (it would have to fit entirely southwest o...

Re: Spaceship Discussion Thread

I searched through most of jslife's 2c/6 spaceships, but I didn't bother finishing because virtually all of the spaceships had long backends nonsparky frontends that were wider than the backends. I think I might try to find a spaceship that supports that tagalong. Also, from what I know, Sokwe's wi...

But also, you're still using regular syringes in your example pattern, but slsparse doesn't know how to build a standard syringe catalyst with slow salvos. You'd have to add custom recipes to the database to make that work. Am I doing this right? I'm pretty sure that this isn't "well-separated". x ...
