Does this one work?
Yup, I can get the icy blue ring to appear around LifeViewer with that trick.

I'm not sure this even counts as a bug any more, though, since you have to work so hard to make it appear, and LifeViewer still seems perfectly functional even after it has appeared. (?)

Re: Pattern viewer for forum threads

While the results are nowhere near consistent, with a bit of luck and the appropiate hardware (dvgrn might be able to reproduce this) it should take less than a minute for it to happen. Unfortunately, I've followed these instructions for somewhere between five and ten minutes on an iPad, without se...

H-to-G29 (I think)... There's no need to guess about this kind of thing. Just select the pattern you posted in Golly and run the script in the first post, and subtract 31 minus 2 -- it's definitely a G29. x = 47, y = 75, rule = LifeHistory D3.D.D3.D2.3D4.D3.5D3.D4.3D3.3D$2D2.D.D3.D.D3.D2.2D5.D4.2D3...

Re: Thread for your script-related questions

How to make viewers on other websites (html5?) Meaning, you want to set up LifeViewer to work outside of the context of the forums or LifeWiki? Here are some sample HTML files that do basically that. You can run those pages offline, at the expense of probably using an older version of LifeViewer. (...

Re: Suggestion of READ.me (tricks for beginners)

I was going to write a brief "rough draft" of an intro page, but I am admittedly not anywhere near an expert and multiple, hyperlinked posts/pages would probably work best. I think this might be a case where it's very useful to be "not anywhere near an expert". It's sometimes hard for the experts t...

Re: Suggestion of READ.me (tricks for beginners)

I think the best way to advertise a helpful tutorial would be to get one of our pages (probably a new page aimed at newcomers, like this but more modern with LifeViewers, encouraging users to get Golly, and with tips on how to start contributing) high up on a search. This seems like a good idea. On...

D8_1, and D4_+1 (the post directly below the linked one). You can find the discovery post and soup by going to the first link in the pufferfish LifeWiki article.

Re: Suggestion of an READ.me tutorial in Golly

Oddly enough, I'm not sure that a README file in Golly is the most likely place to advertise the existence of tutorials like the ones on the LifeWiki . (There are some fairly basic tutorials there, but it's definitely never a bad idea to add more of them!) There's a lot of information available in G...

I am using Golly 3.3 to try and run the apgsearch 1.1. I have downloaded python 2.7.16 from the official python website. However, when I try to run a .py file, Golly says "could not load the python library." I am using windows. Why is this? Most likely you either downloaded 32-bit Golly and 64-bit ...

Is it possible to build a "fast HBK" treating the half-bakery reaction as a climber? (probably yes) If so, why hasn't anybody build one yet? (or thought of it yet?) It's definitely been thought of. There are also a few pre-built examples of OTCA metapixel patterns in Golly's Patterns/HashLife folder -- the three files that start with the word "metapixel". is the source code available? The short answer is "no".
