Re: Splitting up the forums further

Coming back to the forums from since before this thread was started, the OCA category that seems to have ballooned the most since then are isotropic nontotalistic rules. Some kind of a separate subforum for these would at least make it easier to find where discussion of e.g. Life-like CA is around ...

Re: LifeWiki:Task list

This page contains a lot of old stuff that seems ripe for deletion. It also does not provide a way to track progress on what seem to be the uber-tasks. Is it time to rethink its usefulness? The page seems potentially just as useful as it ever was -- but it looks like nobody has remembered that the ...

Re: Golly bugs

The putcells() Python command is broken with respect to its "copy" mode; specifying it does not change the paste behaviour from the default "or". To illustrate: import golly as g g.putcells(g.parse("bo!")) g.putcells(g.parse("ob!"), 0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 1, "copy") Running this in an empty universe gives ...

Re: Gun Discussion Thread

How to reduce the bounding box at the bottom? The first standard trick is just to add more pairs of Snarks. That never changes the timing mod 8, it just increases the total time by 8, so then you can move a trombone slide back one step to compensate for each added pair: x = 135, y = 161, rule = Lif...

Re: Gun Discussion Thread

Upon realizing that a centinal can be rephased by removing the transient pair of blocks, I tried to construct a MWSS gun at periods 46+100n. It turns out that the timing for a chain of 3 Snarks+syringe+L156 on the left is off by 4 ticks, and so cannot be fixed by moving the trombone slide. How, the...

Hello, everyone! Transformations is a generalized game of hitting objects with gliders to make other objects. There is a object or a group of them with at least 10 cells and you should hit them with as few gliders as possible to make the requested thing. Your first task will be to turn this constel...

The weekender is down to 33 gliders, and therefore the doo-dah spaceship has been reduced to 39 gliders.
