While this is true, the main reason is the condition vs transition thing

The whole idea is bad. It does not resolve the disagreement on the content (i.e. which wording to prefer in OCA:tlife when discussing differences between rule definitions/rulestrings).

Re: Better solution

Protecting the T life page is a little overboard just to stop one or two editors, as it prevents more productive edits from taking place. I suggest giving a partial block (For only the t life page) to those that have caused the most chaos in the edit war, instead of protecting it and not allowing a...

Re: Editors should not act as moderators in disputes in which they have been involved

I would appreciate it, if dvgrn... left any future administrative actions in this dispute for some other moderator or other moderators. This simply isn't a big enough community to be able to swap out moderators when there is a dispute. I for one have been too busy lately to do much moderation. I wi...

Re: Editors should not act as moderators in disputes in which they have been involved

as in this transition-vs.-condition case I don't have much problem with normal people expressing disagreement / their opinions. Likewise in the question of how to word OCA:tlife , I'm basically trying to clarify my opinion ( what is the wording I prefer, and why exactly I prefer it), and in additio...

Re: Editors should not act as moderators in disputes in which they have been involved

In your quoted post , you wrote 'Again in my capacity as moderator,' and 'speaking a LifeWiki moderator' and so on. You are mishandling this LifeWiki content issue, by taking moderator actions directly related to the disagreement while at the same time being involved in the disagreement as a side wi...

Re: Rule definition terminology

I simply disagree. Nothing more and nothing less. Well I'm not arguing with your opinion here. I'm trying to clarify my opinion (why I prefer the wording I prefer). Also I posted relevant quotes that hopefully show that my preference also agrees with actual common usage in discussions. The question...

Re: Rule definition terminology

Transitions may or may not happen. Conditions may or may not be satisfied. One might also write 'transition rule' for a specific rule that prescribes a certain cellstate-to-cellstate transition under a certain condition. But a transition rule is not itself a transition. Here are two more relevant CA...

Re: an off-topic message in another thread

To answer your various complaints about me being a participant in the debate, so that I shouldn't be trying to moderate it: briefly, the question of whether I take various moderator actions or not is not your decision to make . If you have complaints about something that I do, follow the escalation...

Disputes that involve moderators

(thread renamed after a suggestion to change focus , previously "Editors should not act as moderators in disputes in which they have been involved") User:Dvgrn protected the article OCA:tlife with the following summary in the log: Protected "OCA:Tlife": Edit-war-type controversial edits are still i...

Re: Mikipedia clutter

I understand, but the userpage is one's castle. One can do anything they like as long as it does not spread out to the main page space. Things like spam, attacking content, high-activity editing are still detrimental, even if in userspace. Ultimately the wiki is a shared space with a specific scope...

Re: Mikipedia clutter

No need. Most Users have no other place to create hooked or sus stuff. As long as it stays within the Userpage space, it is fine. Maybe it would be fine (but this comes from just another pseudorandom CA enthusiast and wiki editor), if only (a) it was significantly less active than it is recently, (...

[*] two statements (hotdogPi, galoomba) that 'transition' is in common use (which is not a valid objection against my changes, since 'condition' is also in common use as evidenced by the quotes I posted) In those quotes, 'condition' was always preceded by either 'birth' or 'survival', so they don't...

Re: Mikipedia clutter

So far, here and on Discord, there haven't been any claims that the Mikipedia pages are relevant to the LifeWiki in any way. The best argument is that " edits are fine if it’s just once in a while". But "once in a while" isn't a good description of the last several days of editing (before today). A...

Re: Thread for basic questions

What is the expected method / constraints? E.g. one could destroy the settled honeyfarm and construct a block in empty space by colliding gliders. Or one could use a slow salvo aimed at the settled honeyfarm to transform it into a block in the desired location. Can the honey farm be turned into a bl...

Re: Thread for basic questions

I think the loaf in the speed tunnel is a bait simply because it is hit and destroyed by the incoming glider, and restored later to prepare for the next glider. The beehive and the block do not interact with the glider so they are not baits.

In my understanding, a transparent catalyst is just any still life that is destroyed by a passing reaction, and then restored back again. The block in Conduit 1 , the transparent mango in a recently found sparky variant of SW-2T21 , the transparent longboat in NW-2T16 . A bait is a transparent catal...
