Re: Ruletable format extensions proposal
You could try to limit calls to the code to speed it up by "compiling" the ruletable once and automatically adding a tree to the file with the code in it (same sort of operation as the existing "clean up old rules"), but it would still have to be run to do that, so fair concern. If the aim is to co...

Re: Ruletable format extensions proposal
The changes shorten a long ruletable: Yes the already mentioned changes would allow to shorten many existing ruletables. I'm more interested in what would remain hard. Suppose all of the following becomes possible: When x is an existing variable, writing ?x implicitly declares and uses a new copy o...

Recently I've been playing aound with the preassembled Golly patterns, and I found a way to completely destroy billiard-table.rle by changing one cell. Re: Golly bugs
The following ruletable is accepted and interpreted correctly by LifeViewer. However, it is silently misinterpreted by Golly 4.3b1. (There are no error messages, but the pattern evolves incorrectly.) I think the cause is that there are two lines exceeding 1000 characters (declarations of variables "...

I'm not sure that's well-defined enough to go into infobox. I think it would be better to put that kind of information into article text, outside the infobox. For example it's not clear why a dock should be in the house family. What else would be in the same family? What would be other families? Is ...

They clutter up this page. That userpage says "No requirement of completeness or quality is made". Nothing prevents simply omitting links to "low-effort" userpages. That said, a forum post in an existing thread is a better way to share some new CA, compared to going to the wiki and putting stuff th...

Isn't it sideways? The spaceships escape at +/- 90 degrees relative to the direction of the rake. I thought about that, but sideways rakes don't really exist in Life, so I thought it doesn't have its own name. ???
