Yes and I didn't notice the truncation! The real issue always was and still is the upper right corner.

What I see is glide symmetric along the diagonal (after 4 generations you get a mirror image)

The important thing is the sqllite database that stores not only RLEs, but also timing and displacement information. The database is described in more detail in various forum posts. https://www.conwaylife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1267&p=15403&hilit=build+helix#p10506 The script then queries th...

Re: Spaceship Discussion Thread

Also, the computational power required for any method that is cleverer than a brute force method should be bounded by the computational power for the brute force method, which is linear as a function of period. Here again, in theory you're absolutely right. But in practice you aren't actually sugge...

Re: Spaceship Discussion Thread

Dear Weiwei, 1) you'll hardly find too much spaceships in the 10x10 box. 2) You'll quickly get into combinatorial explosion if you increase searchspace 3) Current search programs thus try to restrict the search space by making clever use of the restriction that the pattern will repeat (with an offse...

Re: Soup search results

Do you start a new approach to search toroidal random soups? Nobody has done that since Achim Flammenkamp”s census quite a few years back.

Could we use modified apgsearch technology for this exercise?

Re: The Past and Future of CGOL

the loafer has slightly more appearances in catagolue and a slightly cheaper glider synthesis. This suggests that a gliderless gun might be easier. While the loafer has more appearances in C1/G1, x66 has more total appearances. Constructing a spaceship with D2 symmetry, especially D2 gutter symmetr...

Re: The Past and Future of CGOL

Just for a bit more of handwaving: the loafer has slightly more appearances in catagolue and a slightly cheaper glider synthesis. This suggests that a gliderless gun might be easier. Your argument of just creating enough interest and then joint efforts will always get a solution is not exactly what ...

As a proof of concept, could you provide a gliderless loafer gun? Or at least one using less gliders and some oscillators?

Re: Loafer Synthesis

My 50 cent: While the post cited above shows how a clean glider can be synthesized through loafers, and thus all pattern that can be glider constructed can also be loafer constructed, this doesn’t solve the question how to do this efficiently. Thus I cannot see why this is not a valid topic for the ...

Re: Cordership Discussion Thread

Coming back to the cordership topic: Coming from low period searches, there should be plenty of small tagalongs for corderships. Do we have them and they are just not called tagalongs? I can’t think of an efficient search method in this period range. So they will stay undiscovered for the time being.

Just wanted to mention that a new category yl72 has turned up in G1. The pattern consists of two block laying switch engines that are in sync such that the period halves from 144 to 72.
