Re: Very nearly exploding rules
A rule I've found that seems to be sitting right on the edge is 237/34/3. Even small soups commonly last multiple kilogens and leave quite a bit of ash. Yet larger soups seem to eventually settle into just a few active areas which even more eventually wind down all the same. (Another) crazy methuse...

Re: Sticky: a 4 state isotropic photon-based Moore rule
This post has been delayed by a week, due to wanting to wait for a haul so i could post some apgsearch stuff, but i found that unfortunately, even 10000 soups exceed the size limit, so this post won't contain any of those. I use a different ruletable with states 1 and 3 swapped to apgsearch and make...

Re: Suggested LifeWiki edits
If a topic is not notable in the sense of LW:NB , why should it go to either the main namespace or the OCA: namespace, then? The entire purpose of notability guidelines is to avoid cluttering main namespace(s) with non-notable topics. I suggest to continue the discussion in https://conwaylife.com/f...

Re: Suggested LifeWiki edits
That would still be in the main namespace (as anything that doesn't specify a MediaWiki namespace). So the style/notability/quality requirements and guidelines would apply to that, too. I think the "User:" namespace suffices for draft pages. If they want to do so, the initial contributor(s) can add...

Re: Suggested LifeWiki edits
Proposal: make an article called Non-notable OCA , which (semi-)automatically lists all all subpages (like Non-notable OCA/Example rule ). There are no notability requirements to create an OCA page as a subpage of it, though the subpages are still required to look like a regular OCA page. When multi...

^ | | A still life is endemic when every possible 3x3 configuration of cells have occured in the pattern and thus only works in B/S012345678. The still life you build is not required to be strict, in fact strict still lives cannot be endemic since it's impossible to achieve S0 in that situation. Her...

Re: Rules with small adjustable spaceships
Here's a bunch of highly unusual adjustable spaceships with the speeds being a near-log rate. From a minimum length of 3, the speeds of extensions are c/x, where x follows the exotic number sequence of 9,15,26,45,84,158,307,..., which can't be found at the OEIS : x = 13, y = 48, rule = logext 2$.A$....

Re: Fleet Life - A circuitry rule
This rule reminds me so much of Midknight Mayhem , which are much more stable but are vastly superior in terms of spaceships. Combinations of just two fleets can result in interesting growth (Catagolue soups generally devolve into two fleets): #C breeder x = 50, y = 49, rule = B3aijkr5j/S2aek3-acy4i...

Re: how and when you discovered the game of life?
My story is very unusual: (about 10 years ago) I'm a big fan of screensavers since about 3, and one of my favorite screensavers is "CloudLife" , which generates cloud-like patterns using CGoL. (about 6 years ago) I didn't know what exactly caused the screensaver's behavior until i found a really sim...

Here's a hybrid of a perfect partnership - each rule is extremely good at what the other one is bad at. This is a non-trivial hybrid, made using FWKnightship's scripts . HighMove is an earlier (and arguably better) rule i made using that method. Patterns made of only one state follows the base rules...

I have no problem with either terminology, but it's gonna be very hard for the thousands of people in this forum to change the way they speak, so i'm on the side of "transition". Also, i think "condition" sounds a bit weird when left alone ("B4w condition") but makes more sense when paired with anot...
