Re: Simple Life in HTML5

I'm currently trying to make a life simulation in HTML5. You won't need java, flash or any other plug-ins, but I do recommend a modern browser. The newest Firefox or Chrome should be fine. You can see it here: http://florisbernard.nl/colorsoflife When new cells are born, it calculates the average R...

Furthermore, exactly when a pattern "regularizes" is vaguely defined. Rather, a methuselah should stabilize There is the same problem with the word "stabilize". It's vaguely defined as well. If it means "become stable" it should rule out any pattern with a blinker in the ash. A blinker is not stabl...

Well, methuselahs don't "stabilize" per se, but the generation count is decided when the population becomes cyclical.

Re: GarlicSim 0.6 released with more Life features

I've like to give this another try, but it appears that easy_install is set on 0.5. Once this is updated, I'll install it and try again. What do you mean? You tried running `easy_install` and got version 0.5? I tested `easy_install` after I made the release and confirmed it installed 0.6. Perhaps y...

Re: Applet Additions

That about the code box gave me an idea. What if Golly accepted its own URI scheme for patterns? Something like the data URI scheme ( Wikipedia ). Then, a button could be added on the code block to open the pattern on Golly. It could also be extended to install .table, .tree, .colors and .icons fil...

Re: Applet Additions

Well, the life applet is really mostly just a simple demonstration of sorts; it's mostly so new people can get a taste of how things work and look like. For people who want to spend more than a few minutes on it, it's almost always better to just download a standalone life application (Golly is the ...

What about every reaction that throws off sparks, capable of deleting nearby objects? Are they type-3?

Re: Wired blog article about Minecraft

You know, I've been thinking for a while, and don't you think that the redstone in Minecraft could count as a kind of 3D CA? with wire and torches and blocks alone, it would probably be a ball-park range of a 18 state CA. It technically does count, but it becomes more usable when condensed to somet...

Not unless there are significant changes; however, a lower state CA with similar principles would be interesting.
