Re: The Online Life-Like CA Soup Search
Here's one of my saved Methuselahs that is an underestimate. Of course I had hoped that it would run for another two thousand generations ;) It was saved as 20490 and actually stabilizes at 21015. x = 20, y = 20, rule = B3/S23 9bo5b2o$2o10bobobob2o$ob2obobo3bo6bo$bo4bo2bobo$b2o8bo6bo$b2obo2bobob 3ob...

Re: The Online Life-Like CA Soup Search
Golly 2.2 running on Windows XP Professional 32 bits doesn't save the Soup Search files over 20k. Golly has reported one file in the 20-21k generations range and one in 24-25. I have searched the whole C drive for "Methus" and find only the Golly Methuselah folder. They are being saved in ~/.golly o...

The unverified, Schneelocke 26,960 in the 50 high table - my manual number is 26945.
Why do not the owners themselves send in the actual number and thus help others verify?

Re: The Online Life-Like CA Soup Search
Nathaniel, Will you give us a Soup Search script with source to save locally? Since your concern is tampering with the source in order to create false uploads, you could omit the network source but publish the search. I feel that we might be missing some gems below the arbitrary 20,000 generations l...

Re: Thread For Your Accidental Discoveries
By replacing the R-pentomino with a 2-generation predecessor and advancing the leftmost loaf predecessor by one generation, one can increase the lifespan and decrease the bounding box of the initial pattern with no detriment to the initial population: x = 18, y = 21, rule = B3/S23 o9bo$o8b2o$3o6bo5...

Re: The Online Life-Like CA Soup Search
Thank you for the above. I put the first generation century in Golly and ran it. I can see that memorizing the sequence would be valuable. I have never studied Life seriously, rather tinkered with it on and off over the years. My introduction to Life was the article in Martin Gardner's Mathematical ...

Re: Soup Searh: No module named string
Solved it.
I downloaded Python 2.6.6 and installed it properly.
It created C:\Python26
Then I put the DLL from the soup search page into that directory.
Now I have two instances of Soup Search on a dual core little used laptop.

Soup Searh: No module named string
I downloaded the Python26 DLL and latest Soup search.
I get the following error trying to run Soup Search ..
....\glife\text.py in <module> from string import
Import Error: No Module named string
Windows XP Professional 32 bit, Python 26 from the Soup Search page.
Any ideas?

Re: Thread For Your Accidental Discoveries
I found this soup on one of my machines this morning. It runs for 20513 generations and obviously doesn't break any records. What is interesting is that it is easy to reduce it to two loaves, a beehive and the r-pentomino, then reduce the cell count by replacing the still life with their predecessor...

Re: The Online Life-Like CA Soup Search
Fascinating. I see that the original soup search at generation 58 minus the irrelevant gliders, is identical to the 17 cell at generation 15. The 43 difference is the same as 27057 minus 27014, and the century predecessors make it coincide with the evolution of the area to the lower right. I take it...

Re: The Online Life-Like CA Soup Search
I have run manual verification of the three unvalidated Methuselahs in the high 50 table.
My results are,
Ed, 27070 is 27057
Ed, 26780 is 26106
Schneelocke 26650 is 26188
The latter two were high estimates because a glider escaped from the active area shortly before stability.

Re: Thread For Your Accidental Discoveries
I discovered this pattern that becomes the R-pentomino at the ninth generation.
x = 7, y = 5, rule = B3/S23
6o$o5bo$6bo$3bobo$2b2o!
x = 7, y = 5, rule = B3/S23

Re: Thread For Your Accidental Discoveries
Is it worth adding this discovery I made of a parent of the R-pentomino that
is five cells and fits in the same sized box as its famous child to the
R-pentomino page?
The page mentions grandparents and predecessors, but not this parent.
x = 3, y = 3, rule = B3/S23

Re: Thread for your unsure discoveries
I have searched for this and haven't found a reference. This is a blinker and glider in a 6x5 box that runs to 2602 generations before being stable, emitting 5 gliders on the way. x = 5, y = 6, rule = B3/S23 o$o$o$2b3o$2bo$3bo! Thank you!
One of my searches overnight produced two just over 20,000 and I see the files in ~/.golly on my ubuntu 10.04 64 bit system.

soup search save on local computer?
I was looking up xlife for gnu/linux and found Golly.
And just for less than two days I have been running the "soup search".
Is there any way to save a file locally of the results of my searches using
the soup search script?
Do I have to get into the top 50 to see such a file?
