Re: The Hunting of the Elementary Conduits
What options are there for connecting something to the input and maintaining the 120-tick repeat time? Re: 0E0P constructions
Do you plan to make it as HashLife-friendly as possible? In that case, the design should avoid antiparallel glider streams, including those between neighboring cells. One solution could be to separate cells far enough apart, with distance on the order of cell size. The other one could be to make od...

Re: Spaceship Discussion Thread
Larger but better : a p48+24n adjustable rake (capped here). To increase the period by 24, move by (2, 4) the two spaceships at the back and the upper p24 rake. Impressive! By the way, the p24 rakes can be optimised by using the same Sprayer for suppressing the glider-block collision and emitting t...

And here is tha ATBC version, finally test ended ... I made a mistake not to store the sub result after all the gliders were reflected from the FSE. OK ... corrected, it is in the attachment as well. Incredible work! I'll link to this post somewhere more prominently because it deserves far more att...

Re: Thread for your miscellaneous posts and discussions
[lengthy rant] I have been busy lately and unfortunately did not see this. I hate to bring this topic back up, but I want it to be absolutely clear: Any sort of discrimination based on gender or gender identity is a violation of rule 1 and will result in a ban. This includes intentionally referring...

Re: Gun Discussion Thread
I'm pretty certain it's possible to make a "universal eater"; a still life that is eats any glider that collides with it. But in a large soup it would immediately be killed by two gliders hitting it simultaneously. I don't have any idea whether it's possible to build a structure that can withstand ...

How do you run the search on the Cloud? These instructions explain how to do it in Google Colab, which gives you a few hours per day of free GPU time: https://gitlab.com/apgoucher/silk#option-i-running-in-the-cloud If you want a beefier computer and are willing to pay for it, then you can rent one ...

Re: H-to-G and H-to-Gn converter collection
The "-r" option is a hack to skip the stabilisation of solutions and get raw results I'm somewhat curious about this option: I'd have expected that you'd need to print additional neighbour count information (e.g. the full 8 bitplanes) in order to know exactly how the pattern evolves. You're quite r...

Re: H-to-G and H-to-Gn converter collection
I found 7 small new H-to-G converters using Silk: NE9T-13, SW12T124, NW15T85, NW18T95, NE4T27, SW6T133 and SW2T123 Nicely done! And these settings: > silk -r -s 40 in.rle 28 28 7 >out.txt This yielded 477208 results. The running time was about 6 hours on an Ec2 g6.xlarge instance. For these sorts o...

Re: Shrinking The 0E0P Metacell
... And the other thing is, reading a 2D stable memory to retrieve single-channel salvo information is very likely going to be painfully slow. Yes, if you're using a stable storage mechanism then an ECCA would be a better choice of construction arm than a single channel aimed at a SPEBOE. Single-ch...

Re: Shrinking The 0E0P Metacell
I just got the idea to store single channel construction recipes for common circuitry components in the 0E0P metacell, e.g snark, Scrobie splitter. And then if it needs to create a reflector or splitter, it has a whole bunch of them in its memory loops. The idea of subroutines is a very appealling ...

Re: RCT remaining tasks
Pslmake is on 1% (after about a day) building the pattern seed, I expect the salvo could be finished in about 40-60 days ... if there will be no additional problem to solve. I thought that the seed to be constructed would be the spacefiller seed -- it more effectively demonstrates the universality ...

Re: Silk discussion thread
There have been a few updates to Silk today: mvr has added new options --exempt-existing (a boolean flag that excludes catalysts in the input file from counting towards the active region bounds, matching Barrister's default behaviour) and --max-perturbed-time N (an integer to limit how long the cata...

Re: Silk discussion thread
I'll need to think how to quickly determine whether an oscillator is trivial. How quick does it need to be? Are there so many that it might take a substantial portion of the CPU time? Absolutely, yes! For example this found 8272 oscillators of period >= 11: +---------+------------------------------...

by default it discards oscillators What is the reason for this? I would think it would be nice to output the higher-period (p>10) oscillators by default, as long as checks could be done to discard trivial oscillators and oscillators with known rotors (like with dr's knownrotors file ). I worry that...

Re: Silk discussion thread
I think that block is what's causing the problem, and in any case it's not necessary (Silk uses Floyd's cycle detection algorithm, so it will recognise when it becomes periodic with p256). I tried that now, and removing the block does help for that particular problem. Could it be that this problem ...

Re: Silk discussion thread
Did you mean to draw the block in white (state 3) so that it's treated as a catalyst? No, sorry I should have mentioned that, I put it there as part of the input pattern just to have a known result when no catalysts are placed in the blue area, because of the grid being a torus. I think that block ...

1. Why did you choose the name “Silk” over the remaining Hunting of the Snark characters There are two complementary reasons: The term 'silk' refers to a senior barrister (at least in England and Wales), so this is apt for an improved* version of Barrister: https://castleassociates.org.uk/ask-the-e...

Thank you for your help, I still have a few questions: Is there any other tools needed that are not packaged into Silk?
