Re: Thread for basic questions

Will running a copy of Catagolue locally cost me money? No, it won't. Running Catagolue costs money because it is hosted on Google App Engine. When you run it locally it runs on your own machine and the only cost is the electricity bill. [Edit: ninja'd] I can't find a better place to put this quest...

I can't submit custom inputs using STDIN for some reason; I can use them only as files. Where does the EOF character go? Are you getting stdin by redirecting from a file or by pasting to the console? If the former then the EOL char comes from the file. If the latter then the EOL char can be provide...

Re: Ikpx and grills

Without having looked at the changes you've made to ikpx, I can't say anything with much certainty. But I just want to mention something in case you weren't yet aware. apgoucher has said elsewhere, and possibly here as well, that assumptions about B3/S23 are baked into ikpx in numerous places. You w...

Re: Spaceship Discussion Thread

At the OCA thread on adjustable ships, there was a discussion of spaceships with fixed speed and adjustable period. They consist of a spaceship bouncing back and forth between two copies of another spaceship, like this one with a c/2d ship between two c/2o's: #Arie Paap, 22 June 2020 x = 6, y = 17,...

Re: Rules with small adjustable spaceships

Have all orthogonal speeds 3c/n been proven yet? As mentioned by "2718281828", they're definitely possible, but I don't think anyone has posted a set covering all periods here. I vaguely recall I even had some search results aiming to achieve that result, but I never completed them or posted them h...

Re: The Hunting of the Elementary Conduits

Is this an interesting enough reflection reaction that it would be worthwhile finding p3, p4, p5, and other periodic completions for this reaction? I wouldn't say Definitely No, but it's hard to see where these would be used very often. They'd all be color-changers, and we already have bumpers with...

Re: LeapLife Glider Synthes^2

Sadly, for the 9-bit snake, the Mateon1_Glider8_4_5_Test hauls just show random rectangular soups (none of which actually result in the object in question), and the one 5G_stdin haul shows a 0x0 empty RLE. That's because Catagolue itself doesn't support those Test symmetries, so you need to generat...

Can a gun be made using spaceship converters?
If the converter input is a glider and the output is a different spaceship then a spaceship gun is made by driving the converter with any glider gun having period greater than the repeat time of the converter. Is that what you were asking about?

Re: Logic Life Search

I think the problem is in test.txt. Possibly it has something to do with how Windows treats newlines differently from Linux. Can you try again using this file? test2.txt Yes, that seems quite likely. The following search pattern causes the same output: 0 0 0 0 0 a b 0 0 c d 0 0 0 0 0 I'm a bit surp...

A c/7o partial that's run into a photon barrel. Via LSSS. <snip supported c/7o> That's very nice. It's not impossible that a p6 gun could be found to support the frontend, but considering that there's no known gun above p4 and that there's only one known p6 oscillator, it seems unlikely. Bump Probably the first known elementary example from an OT rule; it was found in apgsearch by dmqwerty in May 2020. (The spaceship is 2c/4o, and this oscilllator is p260) x = 10, y = 10, rule = B024/S0123 o$2o$o6$8bo$7b3o! Fascinating OMoS, but are you forgetting the monster which you pointed out ...

Re: Thread for basic questions

It's also possible to extend a partial like this using logic life search, but it would only be feasible to find a completion if it's relatively short. I'd guess that a 10 column extension is doable, perhaps a bit longer if searching for a partial, but currently a new search needs to be run for each ...

How do you define 'small'? And as far as I know Iwona is definitely not small. Or are you saying that list is using the measure mentioned below?
